  • Goodbye my cancer and goodbye mother 2013
Farewell to 2013 with the lost but love is still here in 2014
Goodbye my life in 2013. I had a breast cancer stage 1 type 3. I had a lumpectomy operation, 6 chemotherapy (18 weeks), 15 days radiotherapy and now waiting to have my genetic test. These journey happened from April to October 2013. In December, I flew back to Thailand to be with my mother who had cancer for the second time. I was with her for 3 weeks and 4 days. I was sitting next to her until her last breath at the hospital. It has been a crashed year and there were many people felt sorry...

  • Getting my head around it
    The New Year

I'm still blogging because I'm still here!  A blog is supposed to be a peersonal account of each one of us' journey along the cancer path.  No two will be the same.

I've joined the group for those living with an incurable or terminal cancer diagnosis and my reading there makes me understand how lucky I am at this stage of the journey.  I'm 81 and I've had my wonderful, interesting life.  I could reasonably have expected to live for another 5-10 years and die of something anyway...

  • 2014 Onwards & Upwards
    January 1st

Woke up positive this morning, not sure how long it will last.  I've tried to find the positives out of the last 7 months and the main one is i'm still here!!!  the care i've received from the team at the Churchill Hospital, Oxford as been excellent.  The support from Mark (the wonderful man in my life) as been out of this world, even when I've just randomly burst into tears for no readily apparent reason, something I do quite a lot!!!  Feel like i'm starting to ramble so I'm going for...

    Just Another Day...
Well it may be the the last 24 hours of 2013 but they have come and gone without much incident for me to report at all. Managed another half cup of tea for breakfast this morning, now feel a bit sicker than normal. I was told this recovery phase may have the one day forward and two steps back feeling but to be fair I don't think I can quantify or recognise a full step forward yet! Had a shock when getting into bath this morning as my lack of buttocks due to weight loss meant quite a heavy landing...

  • Dealing with the Pain
    Help
Hi. I'm 21 years old and I lost my mother 73 days ago. She was 62. She was first diagnosed with ovarian cancer three years ago. She went through an operation and began chemotherapy and radiotherapy. A few months later we lost my nan to old age and the stress triggered a massive heart attack. Radiotherapy was stopped but chemo continued until she joyfully went in to remission. We celebrated but it was short lived. The cancer returned and spread into her lymph nodes and stomach lining. She would never...

  • I need to get it out
    One more to go !!!

After that altercation with the nurse at the beginning of December, hubby realised that his not dealing with it all very well was causing me so much anxiety so he got himself together and dealt with it better which made it so much easier for us both. He said he put up a wall in his mind at the end of rt and was not thinking any further than that. That made it so much easier to deal with but now that finishes tomorrow I can see him start to worry about all sort of things again and his side effects...

    Baby Steps
As recovery continues all I seem to do is sleep, take meds, sleep, take meds, sleep, take meds... Until this afternoon when I thought, sod it, I am going to attempt a small cup of dark tea. Bearing in mind I have not had anything to drink except sips of cold water since the end of October this was going to be something special or something vile. I made the half brew, with half a sugar, half strength and half the heat of a proper cuppa. I settled back, placed the cup to my lips, tipped back and...

Does Thar Spit or Does Thar Swallow?
The age old question has risen its head now I start my recovery phase. The phlegm and mucus in throat has been lining and protecting the inside of my neck and throat during treatment, which has made it an elasticated and gooey substance. As I start to get better I have been told that this mucus/goo will break down more and that rather than swallowing it back down I should cough it up and spit it out. This makes sense (my mam always used to say "better 'owt than in" in her broad Yorkshire accent when...
