I am unsure which is the better approach for radioiodine treatment and remnant ablation. Do you opt for thyroid hormone withdrawal or injections of rTSH? I was initially recommended withdrawal until I mentioned that I knew about injections and then it was left up to me. Do both techniques give similar elevations of TSH levels? Are both techniques equally as sensitive at detecting residual cancers in subsequent scans. Is one technique superior to the other for ensuring ablation of residual tissue?....
I've started! Visited the supermarket today for the week's food. First time without the sticks (crutches). Got around OK and met some staff who complimented me on how I was getting along.
Loaded up the trolley with fresh fruits of many kinds and told my wife I'm now off the sugary desserts. Unfortunately the leaflet on abiraterone says 'don't take grapefruit juice or the fruit itselt as it upsets the absorption of the drug'. (?) Pity because I enjoy both fresh grapefruit and its pressed...
I was always a sceptic, so when my Daughter asked me to go to the Spiritual Church with her 6 years ago I went to please her. On the first and second time nothing happened, and decided that if nothing happened by the third time I would not go again. It would take too long to say all the things that happened that evening. Not only was I crying but others were as well. The coming years saw me become Secretary to the Spiritual Church, doing readings etc: I never knew why I was chosen to have this amazing...
Hey there Gran,
I just wanted to talk to you. It's been over a year since you left and I still feel empty inside. A part of me died with you. I miss you, so much. I have spoken to Granddad quite a lot lately. I know he is sad that you're gone too. He misses you, I am sure of it. My daughter is growing up fast, I am sure you already know. I am sure you visit sometimes. I am proud that she says 'please'. I will make sure, when she is old enough to understand, that she knows about you and all the...
I read an entry under Diet this morning in the living with incurable cancer group. It reminded me of a book I read 10 years ago by an Oxford academic called "Living Proof a medical mutiny". Michael Gearing-Tosh was diagnosed with myeloid leukaemia and advised to start on chemotherapy immediately. He refused, changed his diet based on what he read, and survived 11years against medical predictions.
This has given me pause for thought and perhaps I should listen to my body's intuition....
How naive of me to think I would be able to keep a written record of this awful journey. When did I think I would find the time? Do I want to remember this grim and troubling time? Only heaven knows - I am way too busy living in this moment.
Strangely enough cancer itself hasn't been the main focus over the past weeks, it was always about "getting through" THE treatment. Six long weeks already added onto three months of hospital visits and tests and appointments and worry and anxiety...

As with most of you out there NY Day will have passed in a haze. Mind did too but this time due to the body trying to fix itself and not due to a hangover (Oh for a hangover!) So I spent 23 hours of the day fast asleep battling against infection and trying to make some marked progress with my recovery. I had a visit from 2 different District doctors who both reassured me I was on track and to be a patient patient. I woke this morning (2nd Jan) an hour earlier than normal got all meds down and then...
