Wobble over, into battle once more

Well to say last week didn't get better would be an understatement, the injections caused so much pain we had a trip to A&E in the early hours of Saturday morning.  We did however, find out that M's white count was high as in well over normal range for someone who is healthy, never mind 3 rounds of chemo in.  At this point M decided to disregard the remaining anti biotics and refused the last injection, can't say I blame him I wasn't looking forward to inflicting more pain on him....

    Chemo now.

The remission finally came to an end with a crash last Wednesday at my regular onco clinic.  The PSA had gone up again to my highest ever level, -20, which is peanuts to other men!  The onco registrar, bless her, had ordered an up to date CT scan.  The last was done on 1 November last and I'm going to ask for a copy of that one to find out what it showed then.  The latest scan showed significant advancement of all mets in the pelvis with at least two new fractures!  I know because the Registrar gave...

    3rd chemo coming up
Today reading the posts on the community board, someone said how they can't take it in that they have cancer and it made me think that with everything I'm going through, I will not think of myself as a cancer patient. I don't think I have truely accepted that the lump I have is cancer, its just a thing in my body that will be gone soon. I'm coming up for my 3rd chemo and final tax before starting 3 cycles on fec and I'm just embracing what it throws at me. Not sure if this is just accepting what...

    Sick, Sleep and Sarcasm

I appear to be a master in all three at the moment.

The appointment with the haematologist was painfully brief after a horrendous 2 hour wait. I got to leave with the gift of a massive painful bruise where the phlebotomist stabbed me so they could peer at my blood again. It looks a little like a duckling so it has the added bonus of being vaguely cute as well as rather inconvenient.

When I did finally see his pleasant smiling self, he inspected the assortment of lumps and bumps before declaring...

Deliver the letter, the sooner the better....

Remember the Carpenters song Please Mr Postman? Well I'd like to sing it to our postman, no results yet and past the 2 week window. I forget about it most of the time, but it seems so long since I first had the bleed when it's really only a couple of months. Friends are asking me if I've heard yet. I receive it with good grace (they care, I know) but it's kind of like when I was past due with my kids and occasionally well-meaning acquaintances would greet me with 'You're still here...

    Quack! Quack!

It's happened again:  I had a phone call yesterday from an old friend who asked me how I was.  Of course I told her about the difficulties I was having with managing post-radiotherapy bowel symptoms.  Big mistake.  Because this particular friend is really into alternative therapies, as well as being an evangelical Christian.  She started by telling me that she had a cold that she was 'treating naturopathically'.  I asked, 'what does that mean?'  'Well, I'm dosing myself with this marvellous...

    Paul's fight

By the Sunday, he was still in incredible pain and the painkillers they were giving him were not even touching it. An emergency pain doctor (I think that's what he was called) was brought in to see him and asked him what the result of the CT scan was. As it had only been done on the Friday, we had not been told. The doctor went away, came back 5 minutes later with a nurse and shut the door. I was still unaware, even with that, that there was something wrong. What he then told us has changed our lives...

    Waiting game
Its been just over two weeks since i was released from prison, i mean hospital after my second dose of high dose chemo with stem cell transplant, and have a ct scan and blood test monday to reveal my fate Very unsure why they leaving such a large gap between being released from hospital and ct scans, not sure it bodes well for an attempt on a third cycle, although must admit this cycle really has zapped me , even a month after chemo still get tired very quickly and spend most of my day resting...
