How can I be sad and glum!
Well, I had my mapping CT scan this afternoon. That was not a bad experience. Except they put a sticky marker on my 'you know what', and then had to pull it off afterward! Eek! They wouldn't give me a dolphin on my right hip! Shame! I'm the tattooed lady! Why....when you don't need a wee, but can't have a wee, do you immediately need one, and a poo too? The body does some very strange things when the mind is twitchy! The thing that is really bothering me is having a Hickman line fitted. I do...

Day 4 at home with oral chemo & a.variety of 'random' medications
Morning. It's very strange as I know that I need to get up and take my random tablets & make a small coffee, but I really have no sense of urgency to actually do it. My tumour is located in the front,.right side.of my brain, responsible for the organisational capacities. It's quite annoying and a bit frustrating

    Cancer creep

I had a busy and emotional couple of days this week.  I find it very therapeutic to be able to record in this blog what has happened and my reactions to it.  I really don't mind if very few people read it, but if they do, and respond with comments, so much the better.  I did post a shorter version of this entry over in the incurables group, but I need to stretch my wings a bit more here!

I had an appointment in the radiotherapy department at the Christie on Wednesday.  I should have taken hubby...

    Living with the unexpected

Many people love to plan ahead and make those three, five, ten year plans, they know where they want to be and by when but cancer can put a HUGE stop to that.

I count myself lucky, when my now husband was first diagnosed I was 20 years old, I'd only just really discovered how to work my washing machine and was enjoying the first bit of freedom from the family home so I hadn't got round to making huge future plans that I suddenly had to rethink.

Of course we had dreams and hopes but we never...

  • Sublingual Salivary Gland Cancer- my journey
    4 weeks into recovery

I think it's 4 weeks tomorrow that I finished my 6 week course of RT for salivary gland cancer. This week it feels like things are picking up. Firstly I have started to eat real food. When I say real, I'm not sure it would be to everyone's tastes, but I'm moving beyond ensures, and pureed meals.

I have some fork mash able meals from Wiltshire farm foods that I've been eating. I've also had soup with bread rolls ( which is soak for a while in the soup). Yesterday I had a very cheap...

Cancer Brain - Gone but not Forgotten
Yesterday I had rather lovely reminder of the effect cancer treatment had on me several months ago. Simply forgetting to go and see Derren Brown (a Christmas present to Hairy) when I was in the grips of the fear I was a goner obviously made me determined to give myself the best possible shot of attending future shows because I opened my post yesterday night to discover that I hadn't purchased tickets to see Dave Gorman next month just once. No, I discovered I had in fact bought tickets for the same...

    After surgery

Well that wasn't fun, i for some reason though the lung surgery to remove a few nodules would leave me in the same amount of pain as last years surgery to remove my chest lymph nodes

well it got the same name, same scars, so why not the same pain,

wrong, it bloody hurt when i came round, and nearly two weeks late still hurts

  • TUG reconstruction complications to leg
A word of caution for those considering a TUG reconstruction

I had a successful TUG reconstruction for BC and after serious consideration eventually opted for a second preventative TUG. The second operation was from my perspective a very disappointing and upsetting experience. Following the operation I had no feeling at all in my 'donor'  leg below the knee, the muscles in the rear of my thigh were also paralysed. My foot hung down and I was unable to pull my toes up towards my shin so I had to wear a splint night and day to hold my foot in position...

  • I'm Getting There
    UCHL

I finally got my appointment at UCHL It was Friday just gone. I was called on the phone at 6.30 Thursday night. a total surprise. "It's a nice hospital". I saw Professor Kelly but my consultant did not turn up. but this Professor was totally human. I liked him Instantly. he answered all my question's without sounding like. well like a consultant. I will be going In sometime this week so that he can "take a look Inside" just to satisfy his own mind that nothing else can be done. then I will be admitted...
