I had a BCC removed from my nose by MOHS plus a skin graft on 16th Jan15. I kept the graft covered and moist until the stitches were removed after 14 days. I am now exposing the graft to the air unless I go outside when I cover it; as recommended by the doctor.
I am washing my face with soap and water 2 x a day and applying antibiotic cream to the graft. It is only day 2 since removal of stitches but the graft is covered in a sort of crystallised scab making it difficult to apply the antibiotic cream without taking off the scab. I am frightened to wash the graft site as this will also remove the scab and I am concerned I will cause a greater scar, damage the skin graft etc, etc. In fact, despite the hospital and staff being fantastic, I have been terrified of each stage since 16 January!
To add to this I started a cold yesterday, keep sneezing but cannot wipe my nose!!!
