My dad rang me early January to say that a "shadow" had been found on his lung after a diabetic nurse saw that he was shaking and she arranged immediate tests for him. Following this, he said, he had a PET scan. This did not reveal any cancerous properties in his lungs but showed up a malignant mass in his colon. Needless to say I was devastated and angry at the same time as he had been through these tests and told me nothing.
I live in South Wales and he is in Yorkshire so I can't just...
Hi,
I am on for a rant,
I have had to go part time at my work, I am trying my best for my Mum. My Dad and Mum are still married and live together but my Dads way of coping with things is through humour. I know that is his wayof coping but it is actually upsetting my Mum. I have triend to speak to my Dad but to no avail.
Yesterday I had my Mum out in her wheelchair and I felt as though people were all staring, I wanted to scream obscenities at them and tell them to stop staring. I am an only child and...
There are a lot of things one goes through being diagnosed with cancer. Disbelief, pain, shock, pain and a lot of worry.
So a good stable marriage should be able to cope. And yet, which seems like a moment in time, everything you thought was perfect has been picked up, bended and spilled out in some unrecognisable mess.
We are only in the initial weeks of knowing, and as of yet my husband has not made a decision on the course of treatment. And when you hear the words you can survive this, you think...
There are a few things that I'd like to share with you. Throughout my ordeal, right from the start I have had amazing support from my family and friends.
They have shown great love. My children have been amazing and my youngest has shown fantastic maturity over these past couple of months, she's helped me so much especially now I'm recovering from my surgery, she is amazing and I love her very much.
My eldest daughter has helped me immensely, just by being at the end of the phone. When...
I was scared out of my mind when I found the lump, I immediately made an appointment to see my doctor although I was in two minds as I was terrified he's say it was suspicious and need to see a specialist, I was hoping it was nothing, but in my head I knew it wouldn't be. I am a strong person and decided I was going to just get on with it, didn't want to over think things as I would have crumbled. Just once I was tearful and that was when I told my children, but only after I'd been to see the...
Hi all, I'm Shaz,
This is my story,
2015 wasn't a very good start. I found a lump in my breast and it was cancer. This blog is about what happened, what I went through and what I'm about to go through.
I thought I'd let you know a bit about myself. I am 56 years young and a mother of three (Divorced), two grown up with families of their own and a 15 year old daughter living with me. Life has been a struggle financially for about 37 years after I left home. The one thing I'm proud of is...
Thanks for the replies. Had a meeting with a Macmillan nurse on Tuesday. She was a good help. Waiting for an appointment to have the stent fitted. Hopefully next week. Eating and drinking is a real concern now. One day at a time.
So I guess the last time I wrote here I was waiting to see whether the haematologist was going to take an interest in my breasts and unsurprisingly he said he was about blood not boobs and I was referred to see someone in the breast clinic to be seen within two weeks. The day after this news I went home for a week and a half so I was quite concerned I had missed the contact they might have made to make an appointment but if I am honest, not so concerned that I did anything about it. I was far too...
Wow to think how scared and worried I was about my dad when this all started, and now as I lay in bed with tears falling into the pillow I would rather be back there then here.
Dad is not good, a shadow of the person he was before diagnosis and even after being diagnosed. I always felt lucky that dad had hardly any symptoms, to look at him you would never know he had cancer.
Now is a different story. Since December dads health declined- nausea, vomiting and tiredness- oh and the cough that drains...
