Liver surgery and how it's gone since

Apologies for not updating sooner but lots have been going on and to be honest I’ve been too exhausted to do anything. It’s been nearly 4 weeks since my operation and 3 weeks since my discharge from hospital so I thought it was about time to give an update.

The day itself started early. I duly arrived at 7:30 and was booked in. I saw my anaesthetist and a member of the surgical team and waited for them to confirm they had a bed in high dependency. Once confirmed I made my way, on foot...

    Good intentions gone wrong

So, I think I've mentioned before about feeling like friends have dropped me like a hot potato since I was diagnosed, and a couple of days ago I learnt about a possible reason why it may feel like this. In fact, in the last week or so, I've learnt of a couple of reasons now I think about it...... and I'm not sure how to feel about it.

The first is what people didn't feel like they could talk to me about their probems and all that was goin on in their lives anymore. So where we'd get...

    We are all beautiful

I am 59 and sporting the slight fuzziness of a new growth of hair, and I am amazed to see, having been amazed at how beautiful other women are when their heads are shaved, that I too am beautiful.

Having attended the 'Look Good, Feel Better' workshops, I have learnt finally to enjoy playing with makeup and have used my face as a canvas rather than wearing my wig or scarves (although I do resort to hats when out walking in the cold). I love the feel of my new hair and seeing the wayward directions...

    All bunged up!

I'm sure you can guess from the title what this post is going to be about..... YUP! Constipation!

So, you've got cancer, you've maybe got a surgery or two to go through, and then treatment to endure. Then comes all of the side effects from those, be it; pain, lethargy, nausea, dizziness, drop in appetite, bits not working as they once did. There's the stress and concern over what this means for your future, and any family you might have or have wanted. Then there's the loss of your work/job...

  • The Singing Biker
Long ago and far away, part 1

At the age of 56 I returned to motorcycling after 30+ years.

What brought this on, I hear you ask.

Life is short. Enjoy it while you can. I've always pined for a bike, almost got one several years back, but now I figure I can justify it, thanks to the cancer. That seems a weird thing to say, but I think it's true.

Cashed in some pension and bought the bike, a Ducati Scrambler "Icon", 803cc.

I got the bike in February and ride it whenever I have the energy and the weather is fair...

    Paget's disease of the vulva

I have Paget's of the vulva , I am going into hospital on Tuesday for my 3 operation, and I don't know anyone else that has had this , I am told it is extremely rare , and the one I have no one has seen before , so all of this makes me feel really isolated .

I would be greatful if anyone can contact me

  • Why Not Me?
    Change of Scenery

It's now 2 weeks since my axillary clearance and I still feel uncomfortable with constant aching pain in my shoulder, upper arm and elbow. Nights are the worst - trying to get comfortable in bed is impossible.

I am told that I should be called back for my results in a week and I'm constantly second guessing whether I'll have chemo or hormone tablets and radiotherapy - the waiting is unbearable! We can't change the outcome and it won't bring the next stage of treatment forward if I was...

    The pay-off

So, if you follow my blog in order then a couple of things..... 1 - you weirdo! 2 - I'm sorry! 3 - you'll know I was heading out last night. If you don't follow my blog and have just come across it.... 1 - Run away! 2 - I went out last night. lol

It's the first time out since my latest RAI, which I'm still suffering from. Naps are once again the majority of my life, and everything I want to do around the house - or out of it - needs to be planned and prepared for and spaced out. Need...

    I'm going to be rich!!!

    New business idea!

I've come across a very strong and powerful source of natural gas that's totally renewable. If I can find a way to harvest it, and make it usable for the grid.... I'd be a millionaire!

Kitten farts! Totally the way forward! I've never come across a gas so pungent, and so frequently excreted!

Let the money roll in..... or I'd settle for a gas mask..... heck, air freshener would do right now!!

(Just an amusing moment as I lie gasping for fresh air on...

  • My Journey begins
    Lymphnode removal

It's been a whole week since I had my lymphnode removed for diagnosis. Spent most of the week in bed feeling lousy. Not sure if it was down to the op or just my general symptoms I've been having anyway like tiredness, fatigue and breathlessness.

Neck was very sore after surgery, more than I anticipated. My scar is also a lot bigger than I thought it would be but the consultant said it was a big lump. I'm not bothered about the scar to be honest. It's the least of my worries.  ...
