    today is a new day

so today I have plans!  yes I actually have plans....

since my last chemo i have been inactive, firstly through being so physically ill and then through being so down.  but today I am going to a little cafe with my hubby and brother in law to have some breakfast (goodness knows what when everything tastes so strange) then i am going to visit with a couple of friends later, one of whom is housebound after breaking her hip.

its actually quite sad that i am so excited about this but hey any excitment...

    PET scan: second time lucky

After Tuesday's mess-up, I'm pleased to say I got a very rapid replacement PET scan appointment for today, at Plymouth. It was a rather longer journey - about two hours by train and taxi - to the Peninsula Radiology Academy near Derriford Hospital; the mobile unit parks at the back.

I'm sure many readers will know the setup. But for those who don't, a PET scan works by the fact that cancer cells use glucose faster than ordinary cells. So they inject you with mildly radioactive glucose...

    THAT SPECIAL PLACE

    SITTING IN THE SURFERS BAR

     WITH COFFEE AND SOME CAKE

MY MUM USED TO LOVE IT

     THERE WERNT NO BETTER PLACE

    LOOKING OUT TO THE SEA

AND WATCHING THE WORLD GO BY

    THAT LOVELY WARM FEELING

AND NOT A CLOUD IN THE SKY

    ANOTHER BOTTLE OF BUD

    DAVE WOULD ALWAYS SAY

    DONT KNOW WHY HE ASKED

    I ALWAYS PUT THEM AWAY

    WATCHING IN THE BACKGROUND

    THE LOVELY LYNNE AND KRIS

WHO WE LOOK UPON AS FAMILY

AND WE ALWAYS HUG AND KISS

    ALL THE GANG AT SURFERS

    LOOKING AFTER OUR NEEDS

    SUCH FANTASTIC PEOPLE

    OH HOW THEY...

  • I will win this!
    Not 'my' cancer!

Chemo will start on Monday. All the checks are done and I will have a portacath in three weeks, too.

I've been reading through some posts and there's a thing I noticed: people keep calling it 'my cancer' or 'your cancer'. Well, the cancer that was removed from my body wasn't 'mine'. It has/had no right to be within my body and I will not take ownership of any cancer. As far as I am concerned, it's the devil's and he can blooming well keep it!

    Am feeling...

  • Hi Mummy
Didn't realise it had been nearly 3 years since I was last on here
Hi Mummy Sorry it's been a very long while, I have spoken to you in my times of need, don't know if you have heard me but I like to think you can hear me and your watching us grow and change. So what's new with me? Well I fell pregnant back in April/May 2010 and had a beautiful baby girl who we called Cora Nicola Kingsley Mann. There were a few discussions about her middle names but I got my own way as usual hahaha. I went through my pregnancy on my own as Baz was away for most of my pregnancy...

    Any Questions

    Hello all,

Just to let you know I will post another Blog Next Thursday - 6th September at 2pm (ish).

If you have any questions about Thoracic Cancer I will try my best to answer them as before.

Unfortunately I can't be specific about individual cases, but can hopefully provide some advice to point you in the right direction in getting the information you need.

There are a few questions that have been posted since my last blog on 16th August, and they will be included.

    Look forward to...

  • Struggling with my lopsided body!
    showers

So here i am, just fresh from the shower.  I used to love that fresh feeling, i also used to love soaking in a fragrant bath with a cuppa and a good book.  I didnt hate mirrors either.

now I just cry and cry and... well you get the idea.... I chose a mastectomy.  it made and still makes sense.  not that theres much internal debate time - from diagnosis to op was 3 weeks!  the word cancer motivated me to say 'get it gone' with much conviction!

6 weeks after that i had a 'sentinal node clearance...

    Anger
Nothing helps. She's angry. I know she's scared. I know she's in pain. I want to help but I'm scared of irritating her. I'm angry too. I'm angry to see my sister continuing to smoke. Seeing the situation our mum is currently in. I get angry when I see strangers smoking. I want to pull it from their mouths and demand of them why they're so selfish. Don't they understand the risks? Don't they care about the people they might have to leave behind? I'm angry to see the world keep turning. Carry...

  • Who to talk to now?
    To talk
It seems customary to give a little background before launching; so....I am a 50 year old guy who was diagnosed with multiple myeloma last October, I had many of the usual problems such as breaking my collar bone (which indicated the whole issue) and chronic kidney failure. Thankfully after some exceptional treatment including several months of chemo and dialysis I am slowly recovering the other other side. I still have a number of side issues....but who doesn't?! But this, as such, is not what...
