    Bad day
    • So today - for the first time - I really want to cry.
Ok, so I have breast cancer. We cut it off and blast the body with chemo and radiotherapy and maybe hormones and all will be well. Some people don't get so tired on chemo or sick they can keep working. This is what I want. To keep functioning.
I am training to be a nurse – and I will be a really good nurse. Therefore, I should be exempt from this evil thing and also I just have not got time for all this.

  • my journey back to me
    now 14.5 hours and counting

well i'm sat here with only 14.5 hours to go till i finally go in for my mastectomy. These last 3 weeks have felt endless but i've had some amazing support from my friends in fact i've had a better social life in the last couple of months that i had for years . I found out that i have a lot more people who care about me than i ever thought and it's great , so many of them offering support and help, its going to be strange for me to ask for help as i've lived alone for many years and got used to doing...

    First cycle of ESHAP
Cycle 1: Day1 - So my day started off with my central line being put in at 9am! *yawn*. That itself was hard. I hate having anaethetic it stings like mad but i keep in my mind what its needed for and i get through it. The rest of the say i felt like id been punched in my neck but i know having a line in is definately worth it for all the treatment. I found having a picc line alot quicker and easier to insert but this line is fine and i would recommend anyone having chemo to have a line in, i never...

  • Dave's strange journey
    It's been a funny old week !!!

Well, here we are, my chemo started on Friday 8th June and we waited for all the side effects to kick in. Not knowing how you are going to be affected is very worrying. Started to get headaches on Sunday so started checking temperature like some doting new mother. 38 degrees is the "magic" figure, if you get to this you start to panic and contact the chemo dept.. Monday I had almost 38 for quite some time so phoned chemo dept. and they said it's far to early for white cells to be down but go and...

    New Game Plan Needed?

Sometimes you think that you are Immortal and indestructible, you know you are not but you think you are, if you know what I mean. This also goes for recovering from chemo sessions, just because you are mentally strong and tough does not mean to say that physically you can recover quickly enough for your next session. Session No 3 took some time to feel better however feeling better is not necessarily a reflection of what is going on inside as I found out yesterday when my blood results came back...

    Mum

My name is Emma, i am from a large/close family. In october last year we found out that my mum has pertioneal and lung cancer. They said they could not do surgery only offer chemotherapy which could give my mum 9-12months. She has had all of her chemo now, and steadily getting her hair back.

She has just had 12 litres of fluid drained from her stomach (which builds up to a bump like she's having twins) which makes her severely uncomfortable and prevents her from eating properly. She looks so thin...

I MUST MAKE A DECISION BY TOMORROW

I have to tell my oncologist tomorrow whether I am accepting Oxy and 5FU chemotherapy for bowel cancer. I am distraught at the possibility of loosing my hair.  Has anybody lost their hair after this type of chemo?

The cracking of the skin, sickness, tiredness and possibility of nerve damage too - the list is endless.

Has anybody been able to work at least part time during this type of chemo, and have you been able to drive a car.

Does anybody think alternative medicine is a good idea. I am awaiting...

    Not long now

I am just writing this blog as a bit of a cathartic outlet if that makes sense?

I have had nearly 10 months of treatment and it has been very tough, am glad I didn't know I was on for treatment for that length of time in the beginning. There have been many complications and hold up's along the way and it feels strange to know that it will be complete next week!

Just can't believe it has all happened to me really, this morning my Relay for life pack arrived and there in front of me was my...
