  • Have I the right to talk about dying
Have I the right to talk about dying

It isnt easy knowing that you are afraid to live with cancer. First there is the fear of being operated on and dying in hospital with MRSA or c.diff. Then there is the fear of being alone while on chemo and on top of that 30 sessions of radiotherapy which killed my younger brother.Death has to be the sweeter of the options. Trouble is,no one wants to talk about it. I have had cancer for 3 years now,my surgeon who took out the original tumour said I had 2 to 5 years without treatment so my time must...

    Random Surprises!!

Well when my St Vincents nurse usually calls its just to check up on my pain and pain management and see how chemo is progressing. This time however a magic form came out her bag and made my day! Surprises catch me off guard and i get a bit anxious when things dont stick to the usual routine, but this was a good one!!

*Isis, i have a proposal for you - 000ft, stomach sinks, am i in trouble?! Whats going on?!*

    Hi All,

My brain feels like scrambled eggs. Hmmm... scrambled eggs sounds good actually. I haven’t eaten today yet. I am writing this blog because I am sitting down at the moment, I am so tired and I don’t have anyone I can talk to. I’ve tried to have a cup of tea but it has gone cold and been in the microwave three times now it is probably radioactive. I give up. Everybody says you need to look after yourself too. You won’t be able to look after anyone else if you’re ill too. Well, I will look after...

  • Thank you
    Thank you

I just wanted to thank everyone from Macmillan who helped my Grandad.

He was diagnosed with lung cancer 2 years ago and had a two course of palliative radiotherapy, the most recent being January 2012.

Having been relatively well throughout, he was admitted to hospital with a separate heart condition in May.  A scan showed that his cancer had progressed and he was told of his poor prognosis.

Macmillan became involved at this point.  He had always wanted to be at home rather than in hospital when...

Ask your lung and chest cancer questions - part two

    Hi again.

I hope you found my last post helpful. My next post answering your lung and chest cancer questions will be on Thursday 16th August.

If you've got something you'd like to ask, post your question in the comments below this post before then, and I will do my best to post the answer in my next blog.

As before, I'll be covering thoracic cancer, which includes lung cancer and other cancers which have started in the chest or spread there from another part of the body. Remember, ...

    Mixed results

So, the past few days, John's been feling really well.  Not cranky, not moody, not bumping into things, not exceptionally tired.  It's been really good.

On Tuesday, we saw the oncologist and asked to see the scans - compare/contrast old vs new ones and to see, for the first time, exactly how many and how big.  The news was relatively good.  Most of the tumours in the vital organs have stayed the same or even shrunk by about 1mm+/-.  This means that the dacarbazine is doing its job, with mixed...

  • I don't have time for this!
    I feel a party coming on - 9th August 2012
Nobody can rain on my parade today - and I can't wipe the silly grin off my face either. It was follow-up day, getting the results of all the bits of me they cut off 10 days ago, and it all seems like very good news indeed.
The lymph nodes on the left hand side - all three of them they scooped out to peer at down the microscope - are completely clear of cancer! I wanted to sing and dance with Mr Lovely himself when he broke that brilliant piece of news. He was very good...

Out in less that two hours - result!

Today was the first time in 2 weeks that we were at the hospital for less than 2 hours - bonus!

Tomorrow will not be so lucky as the dreaded peg goes in and he's in over night. I loath the idea of leaving him there and going home. I feel shut out and out of control and it's not something i like!
