Thank you

1 minute read time.

I just wanted to thank everyone from Macmillan who helped my Grandad.

He was diagnosed with lung cancer 2 years ago and had a two course of palliative radiotherapy, the most recent being January 2012.

Having been relatively well throughout, he was admitted to hospital with a separate heart condition in May.  A scan showed that his cancer had progressed and he was told of his poor prognosis.

Macmillan became involved at this point.  He had always wanted to be at home rather than in hospital when he died and the Macmillan team helped him to stay at home for as long as possible.  They reassured him and discussed practical issues so that he always felt supported.  They also gave a great deal of emotional support to my Granny and other members of the family which was invaluable.

After another hospital admission due to his heart a week ago, he was much weaker and agreed that moving to the hospice for his final days would be the best thing.  He passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday 10th August 2012 with his wife and 2 daughters at his side.

I will miss him terribly but I'm so glad that Macmillan was there to help.  I believe that any suffering or distress was reduced to a minimum thanks to your input.  And at the end he was with calm and with loved ones.
