    First steps

    Hi,

I'm aged 60 and have just been diagnosed with locally advanced prostate cancer following a chance PSA test which revealed my reading to be ten times higher than it should have been - a reading my GP described as "alarmingly high."

So far I've had various bone scans etc which seem to suggest the cancer hasn't yet spread to the rest of my body but my surgeon suggests the chances of this not happening are "dicey."

Anyone else had this high as reading as I'm trying...

  • The mysteries of Mo
    October 25th 2011 (pt2)

Paul's dad and his Uncle Peter were going to come down from Thanet today and visit Mo this evening, not very happy about it at all! Paul had asked me before Mo was admitted to the Hospice about it and he wanted to know how I felt ,I told him I wasn't happy about it as Mo and I have had nothing to do with his dad or uncle,no visits or any contact whatsoever with them for over ten years. The last time Mo had seen Bruce, her ex-husband,since we had been together was when they went to Pauls wedding,yonks...

THE START OF OUR NEW LIFE

Our new life started one day in June 2011, when my husband decided to visit his doctor about night sweats and a slight but constant cough. He was sent for a chest x-ray and by the Monday of the next week we were summoned to the surgery and told there was a shadow on his right lung. An appointment would be made to see a Consultant.

Our planned Summer Holiday was put on hold and we spent the next 3 weeks on odd days out visiting the local Hospital for a CT Scan, a Pet Scan and a Biopsy. Photographs...

    Part Four

Part Three are various accounts of my friends, all along the lines of "You're awesome". You don't want to read all of that so I'm skipping that chapter.

Chapter 4 – Treatment Phase One

Before we continue, a disclaimer. When I started writing this, I was prepared against the bad memories it would cause. NOT against the trouble of actually remembering stuff. It may be a coping mechanism that I've sub-consciously put in place, it may be that I'm just plain forgetful...

    wishes things could be better

Never seem to have anything good to write on here, but just feel some times I have to get
some things out so I don’t feel as bad and alone. It’s my nans 80th
birthday this weekend having a massive family gathering, mums coming well I say
she is coming….. she just seems to be getting ill all the time, I can’t see her
making it if I am honest as she has been in bed ill for the week. Even if she
comes she won’t enjoy it. She doesn’t seem to enjoy anything anymore can’t remember...

  • Putting on a happy face for the world to see.
    Today.

It frightens me how quickly time passes and that as each day goes by,  it's another day without my dad in my life. He passed away in May just 3 days before his birthday. My dad had never had the best health physically and mentally - he had a real rough ride of it. But Cancer. That's something else.

Cancer flips your world upside down... puts you into this surreal state of 'Why?'... terminal cancer however is a bizarre one. Denial - ' Your father could have a few months to a year'....

The PTBs Must Have Heard Me!

Two month's ago the doctors, specialists, onocologist et al had my brother dead and buried within a very short space of time.  His liver had virtually stopped functioning, his blood wasn't good, his kidneys were starting to fail and his bones were not looking too good either.

Yesterday he had his 4th chemo session and also got the results of tests they did on Monday.  His bones and blood are great, his kidneys are back to functioning properly and his liver has regenerated to the point where...

  • The mysteries of Mo
    October 25th 2011

Arrived at the Hospice at 11.30 and spoke to Dr Choudary, the first doctor Mo had met, about how Mo is, the nurses were doing Mo's personal care when we went to her room.I let them finish what they were doing and kept out of sight so I didn't aggravate the situation and Dr Choudary went and spoke to Mo.She checked Mo's eyes, the eye drops and the antibiotics seemed to be working as they were a lot better than they had been previously.Apparently Mo had 'presented' regarding her bowel movements so the...

    October 24th 2011 (pt2)

As I was helping the nurse with Mo's lunch Paul and Ewa arrived,Paul was off for the day because it was Ewa's birthday but she didn't know that he had taken the day off because it was a surprise.Mo had managed to have quite a bit of her tomato and basil soup today and most of her lasagne at lunchtime but Mo didn't want the dessert,I think she just had enough today. While we were all with Mo, Carol turned up a bit later than she said she would.Carol and I chatted to each other about nothing in particular...
