I've gone through a mix of emotions since fixing the appointment for my colonoscopy the other day. Not looking forward to the day before - fasting and Klean Prep (to clear out the bowel - advice to stay near a loo), and not looking forward to the investigation itself (going through the stoma will be weird but probably less uncomfortable than the scope through the rectum last year).

So since I last posted my mum started her chemo on Thursday, I was reassured that they have given her a very expensive chemo at her advanced stage rather than just offering a cheaper less advanced version. They gave her two very powerful doses and as you can imagine it has knocked her about. She has had the usual side effects but probably the worse one is severe legs cramps which saw us at the hospital for 6 hours today.

You know you've been ill for too long when even the radiographers know you by name. What really annoys me though, is when people I don't know don't even pretend to not figure I must be me. Because I have an 87 not a 50 or 63 in my date of birth the nurses know to come straight for me. It's almost as annoying as when people presume my mother is the patient.

Well its Day 2 post transplant. He is doing surprisingly well so far. All the drugs were administered from last Thursday (20th October) Campath and Fluradibine and he coped well, he was pretty much his normal self. We were able to go out and about and do stuff as they didnt make him neutropenic and his blood counts were fine as were his temperature and blood pressure.
Day of transplant was a momentous one for us but not for hospital staff. I wish they could realise how important this...
