Chemo. No. 3 good and bad

Hello all, I had my CT scan about 10 days before my last Oncologist appointment, it was a full body scan this time so I guessed they were checking for any further spread. The scan was on a Tuesday and by the Friday I had got myself into a bit of a state worrying about the result, so much so that I ended up at A&E on the Friday night with what I thought was breathing difficulties, it turned out to be nothing really to worry about. I had ecg's, blood tests etc. and nothing was found so was put down...

    on the upswing

Things are getting a bit better today.  His personality/intellectual competence has been ever so slightly waning for the past couple motnhs and he's similar to a 14-year-old version of his older self.  Just less aware of nuances; not as emotionally mature; stuff like that.  But at leasthe's been cheerful today.  We went through a few days of his being horrible and stroppy and throwing things and saying things he'd never say.  he was making up things that hadn't been said or hadn't happened...

  • Mums Nuroendocrine Jouney!
    Introduction

I am Vanessa, I am married with 3 children.

My lovely inspirational mother is 59 next week, just retired from teaching.....

    So the introduction

My dear mum had been having lots of cramps in her legs and twiching in her eylids, pain after eating and a bit of loose stools but nothing to be overly concerned. We though it was through stress of her job, being a little over weight and having a bad diet?!

She decided to go to the doctors, who sent her for a US for gallstones, however this is where the...

    :(

I haven't posted on here in what feels like forever. I suppose I've really felt like I've moved on a lot. However, it doesn't take a lot to get dragged back into the cancer nightmare.

I visited a non oncologist doctor this week and he felt something in my abdomen. There are a hundred (very likely) explanations but obviously to be safe I'm going to have a scan.

I don't have the words for how it feels to be back in the exact same place as I was 3 years ago, waiting for scans...

  • My Journey
    4 down

Well had my 4th chemo on Monday, I now know what to expect and felt very tired yesterday and today have the chemo smell and taste about me which I hate.

My hair is hanging on, I seem to lose some when it has its first wash after chemo and then settles down again, I think if I had or do lose it it will be the final straw for me as this isent easy even though on the whole my reaction hasent been that bad.

I feel fat and ugly:(( im still managing to work most days for 5 hours.

    Only 2 chemo to go...

  • Mum and Cancer and Me
    First Post

I don't know why I've decided to join. I am not sure if writing on here will help me in the slightest. But since finding out that mum has terminal cancer there seems to be schism between me and the rest of the world - who just don't get it.

And why would they? Watching the person that you love the most, suffer, lose hope and confront their own mortality - while you wait with them, helpless is not a place where anyone would want to be.

There's a surreal feeling of loss - one were you...

  • Lung and chest cancer – ask a clinical nurse specialist
    Hello from Michael

Hi, I’m Michael and I’m a nurse specialist working in a specialist surgical centre which offers treatments for thoracic cancer. This includes lung cancer and other cancers which have started in the chest or spread there from another body site.

Most of my time is spent seeing patients and helping them understand why they have been offered a particular treatment or helping them deal with the consequences of their disease. I work alongside all the healthcare team and regularly deal...

  • Hi's and Lows
    Hi's and Lows

I feel so guilty even writing this that I am fighting with myself every letter. I have had a very eventful life so far and was a troubled young man for many years working in jobs I hated and partying as if everyday was my last. I lost my father to a heart attack and my mother to cancer over 15 years ago within a few years of each other while they both were quite young. I guess the loss did not help my stability and I remained very unhappy until around five years ago when I finally slowed down and was...
