egads… this glass may not be totally full but actually half empty

    You know what I hate?

When medical bods disagree with each other.

I’m up for my 5th R-CHOP chemo on Thursday and then my consusltant had me down for a CT scan…. and after that they’d make a decision as to whether I’ll be having the rest of a 6 cylce course (ie one more) or an 8 cycle course (3 more) – I’m sure you can guess which I was hoping for.

Today, I turn up for my pre-chemo blood letting and appointment with the consultant and see someone different...

    Have I or haven't I?

I have started this blog on here, because although I will not be 100% certain that I have pancreatic cancer as ithe tumour cannot be tested until it has been removed completely. To do this I am scheduled for a Whipple's prcedure on the 5th of March.

I am pretty sure that's what I have, my instincts have never let me down yet. I felt more ill not knowing as the first hospital I went to would not commit themselves even to an opinion.

My symptons started in December on the 15th 2012. I...

Now it begins! Highs and Lows to Date.

Hi all, 2 days away from primary tumour removal and a host of other indignities (including removal of 8 teeth in preparation for chemoRT), I thought it a good opportunity to review the highs and lows to date.

Highs have got to include the fact that I am only T1N1 or N2A so probably have around a 60% chance of beating this, also that pain (to date) is managed to zero with a couple of diclofenac per day, Consultants and MDT at Torbay Hospital who are just incredibly talented, gifted and dedicated...

  • so here i am
    where it all started

September is such a busy time of year for teachers. I teach Foundation Stage children so September is the most important time for me and my team.We have 30 children to settle in to school and 30 sets of parents to comfort and support. At the end of September I started to feel a bit unwell. I had a band of pain around my chest, just where the base of my bra sits. So I saw my GP, who thought I may be coming down with a chest infection. I was prescribed antibiotics and decided it would be wise to take...

    Week/Weak 1

I'm one week into my treatment for Hodgkin Lymphoma and in all honesty not feeling half as bad as I expected. I'm aware that this will probably change and I won't be able to carry on "as normal" as I have been this last week, however I'll try to as long as I can.

This week I've generally felt run down and look like Renton from Trainspotting but with more spots. Shallow as it may be, my appearance is the one thing I'm struggling with the most but hopefully this will begin...

    My dad
My dad was recently diagnosed with cancer of the oesophagus and our hearts are breaking. It was so sudden we didn't see it coming. At the moment he has been given a provisional staging of T3/4(pleura)N1M0 which we have been told means its a bulky cancer that may or may not be operable as there is concern that it is close to the lung and may have spread to the pleura. He has to have a staging pet - ct, endoscopic ultrasound, staging laparoscopy and general fitness assessment with echocardiogram and...

  • Triple Negative grade 3 Breast Cancer - my journey
    16 February 2013
I can't believe how fast time is passing! Chemo number 4 came and went on Friday 8th Feb. My veins are not playing ball as they are painful after previous chemo's, so after two attempts a doctor was called and the canular had to go in on the inside of my arm. I'm still trying to find a local hypnotherapist to help me with my needle phobia before the next two chemo's! A nurse came to the house the next day to give me my bone marrow boosting injection. The previous one only just raised my white blood...

  • Vulva Cancer Melanoma- my story so far
Feb 16 - another CT scan & McMillan keyworker

The day of my operation, the surgeon told me the MDT meeting that morning had reviewed ALL of my scans to date and had seen a 'something' on the left side of my neck.  I had noticed what I thought was a swollen gland there about a week before but I had no fever or headache so wasn't worried and it went away after a couple of days.

When I got home yesterday, I had a couple of NHS letters waiting for me, one from a McMillan Skin Cancer Specialist Nurse apologising for missing me at my previous...

Home after WLE & flap surgery Feb15th

Being home is reassuring although I have to cart the catheter around with me till Wednesday next when I see my surgeon again.  My grandchildren were pretty disgusted when they came with my son to collect me to but agree it's better than having to wear a nappy LOL!

My son came up with a brilliant idea about it so I'm wearing a shoulder bag with a long strap and the only visible bit is the tube.  Thank goodness for long stretchy skirts and donut cushions.  My partner said he'd come stay with...
