…so that’s okay then.
That explains my overlong visit and descent into worry… the person I saw on Monday is a new(ish) and enthusiastic registrar. No wonder I was in there so long.
Yesterday was R-CHOP (chemo) number 5.
Having had a vomiting session the day before (very like the one at the beginning of this cycle- but not worth going into hospital with) I was weak as a kitten and slept through most of the chemo drip, waking up in time for my ham sandwich and trifle...
Had surgery yesterday at 9:30am to remove the primary tumour from my right tonsil, remove 8 molars and to check all the "silent" sites where tumours might be lurking undetected. From "lights out" to wake up was a little under 4 hours which was a bit of surprise, as was the level of pain in my throat!!! But a couple of pain shots soon helped and I was taken up on the ward.
The pain started rampling up again after 30 minutes or so and soon get intolerable, I got a small syringe...
Eight months on and hitting a better patch, I think I can handle stuff. How wrong I am. How naive. So I open the Pandora's Box, pull out something which should be left alone, and find myself hurled headlong back down right to the bottom of the pit, right back to that place I found myself just after D's death. And it's all my own fault, because I had to know, had to pick away at something that did me no good.
Lessons to learn: no matter how long we live with someone, we can never really...
The Whipple porcedure was explained to me and my husband that made it easy to explain to the family. I was also told that the cancer I have is very rare.. but it has been caught early enough to treat. Good.Good. Kings College hospital is the best hospital for this procedure was another thing I was told, so Martin and I were feeling really optimistic even though we were all daunted by the whole THING. Martin and my children came up to hospital the night before to settle me in. That was incredibly...
Back from the hospital post-op appointment. The nurse thought the healing was two weeks on, not just a week and that she would be taking stitches out today so it's all going well. The surgeon is very pleased with progress too. He is no longer worried by the medium-extensive bruising which he hadn't expected to happen but I've always been prone to bruise quite badly so we are both content that it's 'just the way I am'.
The nurse removed the catheter; aaahhh! that felt good despite...
I forgot to mention my blood results in my first post- my gamma gt and bilirubin levels were high.Gamma gt is usually high in people who consume plenty of alcohol. I don't -infact I rarely touch it! My ultrasound scan did not take place until 12th November- before that I had the added bonus of an OFSTED inspection- long long days, nights, lesson observations and an interview as senior leader. Hey I got good with elements of outstanding!! Cool results considering how poorly I was feeling. So...
We went to see the Oncologist a week or so ago and he explained that mum's cancer had spread to around her pelvis and ovaries now, which was causing the acities to build up so quickly (acities for those who dont know is present in mastatic cancers which has spread and is a build up of fluid that makes your tummy legs etc swell - you need to go and have it drained off, it weakens you as you are draining good and bad and then the hospital/hospice have to replace the good they have taken out) Unfortunately...
