  • Will I get Superpowers?
Wednesday 12 February, LID Day 3

Well, I'm not feeling hungry or that I'm missing out on anything.
Creature of habit, I had coffee and banana and, now that I've had a couple of days to work up to it, I'm off out to post a couple of letters and to hunt down lunch for the next few days in the co-op. I'm going to look at their "free-from" range.
    Later.

The shopping trip was a reasonable success. That Co-op didn't stock much in the way of "free-from" but I got grapes, plums, salad and cherry tomatoes, and...

  • Will I get Superpowers?
Tuesday 11 February, LID Day 2

Last night I went to bed feeling hungry but this morning I feel okay which means, I hope, that my massive stomach is shrinking. :-P

I started the day looking for my datastick - no luck yet - so now it's 10.30 and I've not had breakfast yet. Sugars are okay  - 5.4 - so I'll get it in a moment. I may have my usual banana and coffee.

Today's dilemmia is whether I can still have Heinz tomato soup. It has milk powder in it, but it comes after the salt and the amount of that is pretty small. ...

  • Getting my head around it
    Recovery routine

A little less pain in the right hip region each day, hand-on-hip not the joint itself.  That was checked by xrays and scans and has no mets in it. So I set out to a little more each day.

Today I walked up and down the stairs, quickly, without using the hand rail.  Soon I shall feel steady enough to climb the stairs holding two cups of tea, one in each hand, instead of the one plus the handrail as I do at present.  When I go out, without my crutches, I try to walk upright, looking ahead and suppressing...

More of a See Saw now rather than a roller coaster

Weekend not too good as sickness in mornings resumed along with lack of sleep and nightmares, This was replaced this monday morning and feeling best I have felt post op, managed to drink a pint of medication via mouth and am now going to force myself to gout for a short walk wih the dog.  I just hope this positive blog doesnt see me knocked back again tomorrow.  Sign fo my garden pub arrived today (Stanhope and Star), the interior design is getting there with carpet fitted and bar nicely varnished...

  • Will I get Superpowers?
    Monday 10 February 2014, LID Day 1

    Hi everyone.
Before I start I'll introduce myself.

    I'm 49 years old/young - you decide!

In 1987 my mum noticed a lump on the left side of my throat.  My GP referred me to St Thomas's Hospital in London and I had two lumps removed (so I thought) for an over-active thyroid. At the same time the doctors discovered I had diabetes. No-one was ever sure if it was the thyroid that triggered the diabetes or the other way around.

Anyway, in December 2012 I noticed I had an identical lump, again...

  • The Uncomfortable Truth of being a woman
This blog is titled…”Your cervix looks very nice” Or.. “The story of a million and one things I never expected my mother to say”.

I start this blog with a quote and I will end with one from the same song.
When you mix music and lyrics sometime the meaning gets lost in translation.
The song I am quoting from is very fast paced but full of amazing words that you might have missed.

“Don’t damn me when I speak a piece of mind, cos silence isn’t golden when I’m holding it inside.
I’ve been where I have been and I’ve seen what I have seen, I put the pen to the paper cos it’s all a part of me”....

  • The Uncomfortable Truth of being a woman
My flagrant use of the ‘C’ word and the ponderings of life after diagnosis.

This morning on the news it has been revealed that Angelina Jolie has had a double
mastectomy due to an 80% chance of her developing breast cancer.
If you know me well enough you will remember how much I idolised this lady over the years.
Not for her choice of partner or sex, drugs and rock and roll lifestyle but because she seems
fearless. Devastatingly beautiful, intelligent, confident, with a heart of gold and a yearning to
encourage peace in the world. Basically, there is a lot more to this woman...

  • The Uncomfortable Truth of being a woman
The smear test that saved my life (although I didn't know it at the time of writing this)

If it was actually possible to make a woman MORE self conscious about one particular part of her anatomy, its when approximately every 4 years you get the familiar call from the doctors..”Miss Regan, its time for your smear test”
SMEAR!! Even the word conjures up horrific images and that’s before you even understand what’s actually involved. I mean come on people, change the name at least. Men get the proctology examination but we all know they don’t leave the doctors with a degree and...

  • Getting my head around it
    Happy days

I feel well!  Yesterday I worked effectively in the garden for two hours or more and cleared away a lot of large pruning that had been waiting for weeks or even months.  A couple of days of wind without rain had dried off the branches and their dead leaves so that I was able to use the shredder. (Cog-type shredder, not whirling blades).  Today I went for a walk right through the village and met several old friends I hadn't seen for weeks or more.  I was able to talk about storm damage and see for...
