I write this the night before I say goodbye to my cervix. Tomorrow it is being removed via a rather brilliant surgical piece of equipment and a rather brilliant surgical procedure. Whilst I may come across as flippant about this, please rest assured, I am not. I’m writing this to expel some nervous pre-op energy. I’m also writing it to expand upon how lucky I am, something that I have alluded to in previous posts.
I was given the option of having a hysterectomy or something called a trachelectomy...
Hello blog peeps,
I am writing this blog from within the hospice. My family are here with me to stay the night, please don't panic. I am in here for respite and very much plan to come out again but I'll tell you how we ended up here.
It's been a while since I wrote a blog. It's been eventful. Unfortunately not in a good way.
On the 15th March I felt really hot so I took my temperature. 38.9 is not good, not when you've recently had treatment for chemo or immunotherapy. So I duly...
I had a real 'down' day yesterday, cried lots and kept wanting to just shout 'WHY?' at the top of my voice. Stupid thought I know, but I want to know what's going to happen next - although deep down, I'm sure I'll be recommended for chemo. My lumpectomy was successful with clear margins, but 2 of the 3 sentinel nodes taken out tested positive. Back in I went (on Saturday 8th April) and I had an axillary clearance. Pain wise, it's ok - I have a drain in and apart from sharp nerve-ending twitches every...
First day today with the chemo to hopefully cure my leukaemia. I have chosen to do the clinical trial as that should give me the best odds. I now cancelled is rough but I am looking on the bright side off life.
Arrived at my 9am ENT appointment. Consultant examined the lumps in my neck and told me he wanted me back that day to do a biopsy. He said the sooner we get a diagnosis the sooner we can start treatment. He had a look at my throat by putting a bendy microscope thingy up my nostril. It didn't hurt but felt pretty strange.
I was asked to go back at 16:00. I was feeling pretty scared about the biopsy... not only the results but if it would hurt. Sure enough it did. Despite being having the local...
I got my appointment to go for scan pretty quick after my heamotolggy appointment where I had full bloods taken, 8 viles to be precise.
Had an appointment for 19:20pm which was really handy as it meant I didn't have to miss work. I was told to lay with my arms above my head whilst it took place which was pretty uncomfortable but it never took long so I didn't mind. I love the sensation of the dye they put in as it made me feel all warm and fuzzy.
2 tests down and 1 to go I was...
So after been referred by my GP and having to phone to remind them about my 'fast track' appointment as I hadn't heard anything I was told my appointment had been posted out 'today'. It was only 9:30am! So probably forgot, I was at my first appointment with my heamotologist 2 weeks after federal was sent by my GP. He was lovely. Asked me some questions: have you lost weight?, do you get night sweats? Do you suffer with fatigue? To which the answer was yes to all. Whilst he examined me for swollen...
So it's only been 2 hours and 35 mins since I was laid having my ultrasound scan and now I'm sat trying to desipher what my GP was telling me from the scan results. I couldn't understand what she was saying or probably switched off when she mentioned a heamotolggy referral but managed to see written on the results and highlighted in bright orange 'urgent further investigation required'. She told me I would be seen within 2 weeks by haematology. I left asking do you think it could be cancer? To which...
So from my GP requesting an ultrasound scan of my neck to investigate the lump and me physically being laid on the bed receiving it only took 2 weeks. I laid listening to the radiographer telling me I had lumps on my other side of my neck too and how she was going to type up my notes that very day so if I wanted to visit my GP the following day they would be there waiting. I knew this was serious because all the scans I've had over the years I've been told 'it'll take 10 working days'. My scan was...
So it has been 5 months since my GP told me my lump 'was normal and nothing to worry about' but I knew she was wrong. In February I visited her again and told her I had a further lump behind my ear and that I was tired most days and short of breath. She requested a full blood count and put traces on my lymph nodes. The following week my results were back and showed an abnormality in my lymph nodes. She referred me for an ultrasound scan of my neck to see what was going on. I was beginning to worry...
