  • Recipes for Carers
    Slow Cooker Cabbage Roll Soup
A delicious soup but if you have a smaller slow cooker (most are 4 litres or smaller) you will need to adjust the quantities as this is based on a 6 litre slow cooker. This is very, very filling and , if the vegetables are diced finely, very easy to swallow. You can run the completed soup through a blender if there are any swallowing issues.
    Serves : LOTS
    Preparation Time : 20 minutes
    Cooking Time : 3 hours
    INGREDIENTS
    • 500g thick bacon diced
    • 1 large onion diced
    • 3 cloves garlic minced
    • 500g lean minced...

  • Recipes for Carers
    Slow Cooker Chinese Pepper Steak
Simple to make and delicious with rice. It's not overly hot as it only has 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper, but you can add more black pepper, or substitute with cayenne pepper, schizuan pepper or chili paste or if you like it hotter. If you have issues slicing the beef thinly enough, place it in the freezer the night before and then slice it while frozen - much, much easier. You'll need to allow additional time for the frozen beef strips to thaw.

    Creamy Parmesan Mushroon Chicken

Really, really tasty and creamy. This is a favourite of the whole family, from Nanny down to the grandkids. And the neighbours usually drop in if they smell it cooking.

    Serves : 4

Preparation time : Approximately 5 minutes

    Cooking Time : 25 minutes

    INGREDIENTS

    • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, thinly sliced
    • 2 Tablespoons Olive oil
    • Salt
    • Pepper
    • 250g sliced mushrooms

    Creamy Parmesan Garlic Sauce:

    Tuscan Chicken

Lovely fresh lemony taste and very easy to make. The quantities below will completely fill 1 large and 1 medium baking tray. You will need to cram everything in to get them all to fit, but this is how I was shown this recipe and it really works. In reality, these quantities will feed 6 but we usually make this amount for 4 so we have plenty of leftovers for the next day. Store the chicken leftovers with the leftover juices in the fridge overnight and it is even better eaten as a chicken chunk or...

    Carrying cancer.

I was going to say that I have suffered cancer, but I haven't. I've put up with it, which is hardly the same. I've known it was there, have seen its picture, seen the way my stomach changed position when a third of my lung was removed and my diaphram moved up to fill the new gap. That all just gave me chronic wind till it settled down. I can see the scars of course, and very clever they are too. The lung exercise went in via a cut up under my right arm and the lung removal was via a similar cut under...

  • NEW BEGINNING
    Ambassadors of Positivism

I am starting a new Blog which I name as New Beginning

Usually people are worried and depressed when they are diagnosed with cancer and think it is end of their life. But I would like to say I am starting my life new with a new perspective and hence the name

Let me introduce myself. I have been diagnosed with Adenocarcinoma of Rectum (Stage 3) in June 2017. I underwent the usual Chemo radiation, Surgery and Chemotherapy. I had a temporary Ileostomy for few weeks which was closed.  I am in my 7th decade...

"Cancer must not define who we are..."

'Express yourself' written on brown paper surrounded by twine, craft scissors and flowers.'

Whether it’s drawing a picture, painting, writing a song or perhaps a poem, being creative is for many people a great way to improve your mental wellbeing. Having spoken to a lot of our Community members about their experiences, I often hear that being creative has helped provide them with an escape or diversions to where cancer’s no longer a central focus.

Our Express yourself group’s a space where members showcase their creations, so as a way of encouraging others to perhaps do the...

Update on High Grade VIN - After laser surgery

I haven't posted in a while and I wanted to explain why .... My VIN has fully gone since the laser surgery!

I had my first laser surgery exactly a year ago and have had no VIN for a year!

Even though the surgery was only carried out on a small area, my immune system attacked the whole area that had VIN and the doctor says it has completely gone. I have no lumps, absolutely no marks from surgery (I can't tell where they even did it!) and I can have intercourse etc with absolutely no pain or worries...

  • My Journey at 23
    Chapter 17; Surgery is done

So yesterday I had my hysteroscopy and endometrial biopsies taken under GA. All went well and I’m floating on a cocktail of drugs for now.

The consultant suspects my endometrial hyperplasia is back but struggled to see much as my womb is so cystic and just looks bad.

I now have a 3 week wait for the results which is just the hardest thing for me. He’s inserted a mirena again to get a head start on the treatment if it is hyperplasia.

Now just to wait and see!
