Had a sad phone call on 2nd September to tell me one of my sisters had died. She was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer on 28th July but decided not to tell anyone until she knew how to but she was admitted to hospital on 25th August so none of us knew until it was over. Great shock, went to the funeral last Monday and, as funerals go, it was quiet and dignified. Seems strange to think I can't just pick up the phone anymore. How many times are people going to ask me if I am 'back to normal' yet?
If they mean am I back to being the old me, that's obviously silly as having cancer and treatment has changed one's body and outlook.
How does one get the old perspective back eg. assuming one was going to be enjoying getting a bus pass and maybe even becoming a Granny.
You can't even look at your medical exemption card and wonder if you can outlive it.
