  • The mysteries of Mo
    October 24th 2011 (pt2)

As I was helping the nurse with Mo's lunch Paul and Ewa arrived,Paul was off for the day because it was Ewa's birthday but she didn't know that he had taken the day off because it was a surprise.Mo had managed to have quite a bit of her tomato and basil soup today and most of her lasagne at lunchtime but Mo didn't want the dessert,I think she just had enough today. While we were all with Mo, Carol turned up a bit later than she said she would.Carol and I chatted to each other about nothing in particular...

  • The mysteries of Mo
    October 23rd 2011

Paul and Ewa visited Mo this morning about 11ish,I only knew they were there because I had just rung the Hospice. The nurses said Mo was comfortable and had eaten some breakfast, probably porridge I expect.Mo didn't want too much personal care this morning and indicated as much to the nurses.Still has yellow tint in her eyes hopefully the antibiotics will sort out the infection Mo has picked up,wherever its hiding.

  • A New Way of Life
    Good news (unofficially!)

Mate who works in the Trust (alongside my consultant) texted me today asking if I'd had any news.

It's my day off so unable to look, but know results ready anytime.

I texted back asking if she'd looked, but I'd not expect her to tell me anything if she had. Then she rang me! She said report was very long & she didnt understand it all, but it said consistent with MGUS!

    Hooray! I'm only pre-cancerous! (provisionally)

Seems a bitter sweet thing to celebrate. I dont have cancer...

    Life interrupted

Well it has been a while since I have put a blog post on here mainly due to the interruption that was cervical cancer becoming less of an interruption and allowing my life to start to return back to normal (ish).

People always say that a cancer diagnosis changed them and after my first set of treatment I did not understand it. I never felt anything other than relieved that the treatment was over, exhausted and convinced that the cancer had gone. We all know how that turned out!

    After the pelvic...

  • My Journey
    In the line up

Hello the ether world of BC sufferers. I've spend a couple
of weeks reading posts not sure whether to blog or not so here I go.

I went for a family history scan with no suspicions about
anything - sister had pagets earlier in the year and just thought I ought to
get checked out! 2 hours later I was choosing the hospital for a referral. Had a 2/3 cm lump which I didn't realise was
there with infected lymphs. Doctor said that she was pretty sure it was cancer
    - diagnosis confirmed it one week...

  • Bummer....!
Devon and Doctors and Pubs and Prats and Pebbles...

Couldn't decide what to call this one.. pages and pages of ramblings might have been better...oh well, If you don't have time, here it is in a sentence...

Went to Devon, had a nice time. went to the docs and got new pills.

    For gluttons for punishment...

Little My never did a good sense of direction and having been somewhat poor  until very recently,  sat navs were somewhat below food and heating on the shopping list.  So Little My printed off directions from the internet and off she went...

  • Seconds out - Round 2±±
    Scared!

This Friday is when my husband starts Round 2 of his two-drug chemotherapy.  It has been just great whilst he has had two weeks off, no bottle hanging around his waist to disturb his sleep and both his strength and sleeping patterns have improved.

I am not sure if the second round is worse or better than the first.  I feel he has been quite lucky because although he has lost his hair and suffered from some nausea and tiredness, he seems to have fared better than many people I know when they have gone...

  • Grief
    Part 2 continued – kindness

One thing I realised when I read my blogs back is how I did not recognise the overwhelming support I have had from friends, family and people I didn’t even know that well.

Support has come not just from those closest to me but a random colleague who has stopped me and said I heard what happened, I am so sorry and asked me how I am, offered support and said that they really meant it, they weren’t just saying it and I honestly believe they did!

Also the fabulous practical support, one...

  • Grief
Part 2 - Opinions and memory loss

An apology in advance as this is a bit of a rant. It would help to know if anyone else is experiencing this or anything similar.

I am experiencing a lot of opinions from colleagues and some friends about grief.

“I don’t know how you do it (in relation to me working, going out, speaking to people, leaving the house) if I was you I would never go to work/leave the house again.”

“How are you not more of a mess?” “Why have I never seen you cry?”

    This I think...
