In terms of me, myself and my alps, everything is fine. I think I've relaxed a little bit now I know the dates and the plan. I think I've also become even more pointless in my brain because I don't feel like I'm still holding my breath and all the wibbly wobbly-ness of the last 3 months is slowly escaping. That's my excuse for doing bizarre things anyway. Nothing awful, just apparently saying things that make no sense and not realising I've said them; forgetting things; being a bit vacant and the...

  • Sublingual Salivary Gland Cancer- my journey
Day 11 - I'm ready to go home now....

I'm ready- mentally and physically to go home now. Friday they said I was physically ready, but I just wasn't ready myself, but today I am, so hopefully I will be on my way tomorrow.

Today for breakfast I ate bread and jam, porridge tea and soup. With a tea spoon and a bit of occasional poking ( and the crusts cut off) it all went down. ( I know my hair will never curl!!)

MDT meeting Wednesday to decide if my margins mean I need radiotherapy or not, apparently one side is a bit close. Lymph...

    Waiting....
One thing I've learned as a cancer patient is patience. Everything seems to take so long. I've had two visits to Harefield Hospital now. The first to Dr Mcgonigle following the referral from Dr Mukherjee. He said he didn't know why I'd been referred to him as he doesn't do radio frequency ablation (RFA). He then said he thought I was suitable for that and got the CNS nurse to speak to me. Julie was lovely and explained it all, and how Dr Dalal worked. The next visit was to see Dr Dalal -all went...

Chemo i found out what what the tumour marker afp meant, my afp at diagnosed was 415000, to me it was just a number, meant absolutely nothing, ,they told me the number i just shugged, 4 weeks later professor Howich explained to me it was decreasing a half every week and was only about 90000 woohoo i thought thats good, treatment working as expected, It was only in the last week i found out that it was supposed to be under 10...

  • Taxotere
    Skin rash with Taxotere
About to have my 4th dose of Taxotere. I have had every side effect possible - severe neutropenia, allergic reaction when second dose given. My oncologist lowered the dose by 50% but third time got the most awful raised rash all over the backs of my hands face and even my eyes! Nails are discoloured and lifting and fingertips are numb. Last night my left ankle and foot swelled up like a football. Has anyone else suffered like this and will the rash get worse with the next dose?

Don't suffocate me in your bosom!

Today I've had the brain of a mongoose that was recently in head on collision with a tank. I managed to forget I two meetings I was meant to attend (so didn't), nearly forgot to pick up my medication and then got home only to realise I'd put a collander in the washing machine instead of the clothes to wash. Thankfully I hadn't turned it on. Don't get me wrong, I've had a perfectly lovely day but I clearly wasn't on the same planet as the rest of humanity!

    Questions for the plastic surgeon

Is this what you expected when you stared altering me?

When you rearranged my body, patched me up and set me free?

The stitches are quite ragged, is that usually your style?

I have a fashion background and have wondered for while…

I understand mastectomy is not a level peg,

But was this your intention, taking muscle from my leg?

And though the muscles thriving that you brought round from my back,

If you tickle my front front now, it’s my dorsal that feels slack…

    And please...

    Good intensions...

I never was a runner when I was small at school,

I was okay at the hurdles, but at hockey I’m the fool,

I can not hit a tennis ball to save my wayward life,

Yet now I do my exercise, and satisfaction’s rife!

With dry hair motivation, that comes with middle age,

I’m doing lengths of breaststroke, it is like I turned the page,

I run for miles around, the calories I’ll kill,

Have bough a powered bike because we’re living on a hill…

    Putting it behind us...

The hound is in the cupboard now,

I try to keep him there,

    But sometimes he escapes somehow,

’Though these days that’s quite rare.

You’d like it if he hadn’t stayed,

But I can’t let him go,

In secret moments back he’s strayed

    And that helps me, although,

You think that means I’m in the past,

    Like I’m not moving on,

Yet actually it is a sign how far we’ve come along…

I didn’t wait “for ever” in rooms so clean and bland,...
