    8th April 2010 - Pre-op assessment

My fiance was able to get time off work to attend my pre-op assesment with me; this time it was back at my local hospital so only about 15 mins away.  From memory we were only  there for a couple of hours over all...

First they took my weight, height, blood pressure and BMI.  Next I sat down with a nurse to go through a 16 page form.  She also gave me lots of leaflets to take away and read about anaesthetics, deep vein thrombosis, lumpectomy, sentinel node biopsy, visitor guide, carer's guide for...

    Very Tired

Today I went to see my plastic surgeon this morning....all is healing well and will see me again in 3 weeks.......so, if this is all healing well, why did I feel sad, depressed, tired, fed up, crap etc......I have 3 consutlants clambouring for my attention, under normal circumstances I would be flattered, but I'm not (obviously)..This could also be that I have to go to my uncle Billy's funeral on the 31st, why is it you need the ones that are no longer here??  Gotta go before I start making...

    Today

Today my mum went into the hospice for a short stay (week to 10 days the doctors said).  She hasn't eaten or drank much for a week and is therefore very weak.  She can't stand on her feet at the moment, such is her weakness.  She is staying there so she can get treatment and so that hopefully we can get her stronger and home again.

The hospice is a lovely place and she has her own private room.  But it was heartbreaking to leave her there.  The house feels empty without her and I had the horrible...

    Family History in Brief

I have a significant family history, mum was diagnosed with Breast Cancer aged 36 got ovarian cancer 2 years later and eventually died aged 44 from secondary ovarian cancer. The youngest of my aunties on her side to die did so at 28.  The oldest was I think in her late forties. My closest cousin on that side died at 40 (her mum was the one that died at 28) and so it goes on through the rest of the family...

For years I was convinced I would die aged 44 and it took a lot of work to...

    Birthday Wishes

Yesterday saw my Birthday, and also the beginning of Mums 4th and final cycle of chemo.

I havn't blogged for a couple of day because I have been feeling absolutely fine about everything.

Saturday was good, we went for our breakfast and spent all day just watching tv and chatting.

Then last Saturday night I was watching T.V and saw a comedian Russell Howard showing a clip about a website called postpals. I will give the link at the end of this blog.

When I looked at the site, made...

    Liberating experience

I got my PICC line out after my last round of chemo. I requested this as it was really getting to me. I know this may sound silly but I felt as if I got my body back.

I was a little anxious about going swimming since I only have the one boob now but then suddenly today I thought, 'to hell with it' and off I went to the pool. I got changed and headed out into the pool area lob sided but happy. No one even looked and even if they did I didnt notice. I have suddenly felt so much more confident about...
