So after a fairly decent night we had a lie in and woke about 6am.  Except clocks have gone forward and it was only 5. Growl.

Porridge with gold top milk for brekkie before the dreaded capec pills. He really hates them. The days after Oxaliplatin are the worst. He managed to control the nausea without the extra anti sick pill. Bonus. Eating difficult.

    Shower and day clothes accomplished!

Thing is after 15 mins of sitting on sofa he got teary (not for the first time). He didn't remember getting...

    Saturday

Another day we thought she wouldn't see. Today is one of her grandchildren's birthday and normally she would of rung to say Happy Birthday. He did see her on Friday and told her if she needed to go he understood. She didn't need to go and is still with us.

Dad had a bad day yesterday. he kept losing his balance when he stood up and getting confused about stuff. He went out in the cold with no coat on and his slippers on. No one even heard him leave. My sister found him at the bottom...

    Day 22
My husband passed away 22 days ago as the title suggests....he had Mesothelioma and battled for a relatively short time but there again he had a lot to battle with! So I find myself 3 days after his funeral wondering what do I do now, I am so used to the carer then organiser role that I feel redundant! Time is passing very slowly and I never noticed before just how many people, including friends, are part of a unit.....a unit that I don't have anymore. Friends have and are being lovely but I feel...

    How to cope with grief

Its been 10 days since my lovely mum has passed away. The funeral was held and now we have a gaping hole in our family. The thing is mum was so ill for 6 months before she passed that I felt like I lost her then. I have been very busy planning the funeral and also moving home and I guess I have been filling voids. Will the power of the grief hit me one day and nearly wipe me off my feet? I thought I would cry more, I thought I would collapse at her funeral and not cope but I have done. I am really...

    Sleepy

So the oxalipltin went in on thursday. He had a pretty good night aside from a tickly cough, woke him up to drink some warm cordial.

A pyjama day for him while I attacked a couple of weeds in the garden. Gave me a scare when he came out with thermometer and said 37.3  - Thought he was asleep. Temperature was due to sitting next to open fire for too long. Doh. Such a bloke. . . .

Another good sleep for him friday night too. He even put the kettle on to make the morning tea with. Then went for a ciggie...

    Friday

Got a phone call from my sister to say come straight away because Mam was getting distressed. Nurses came and said she wasn't distressed and didn't want to give her any drugs. My other sister's said that we had been there all the time and that she needed something to help her settle because she was stressed. One of the nurses then decided to give her something, the other (older) nurse was not happy with this but they discussed it and agreed she needed something. One of my sister's got really angry...

8 months after losing my mum

Hello, I am Joe. I am 17 years old and was 16 when I lost my mum to cancer after her long battle. This is my first time ever writing about my experience and my relationship with my mum so I am a little nervous and may be quite upset whilst writing this. I feel I want to share my emotions as I’m not a very open person with dealing with my loss. I hope this can help me.

Me and my mum were so well connected as she was my best friend as well. I’ve always had a really special connection with...

  • Losing Mum
    So far....

The hardest thing to deal with since losing mum is getting used to her not being there. I'm used to the smell of cooking when I walk in the house. Now there's no cooking smell, just silence and the silence is louder than when the house was full of people. Her deterioration was rapid and left some terrible memories but so far getting used to my mum never being there again as a physical presence is the hardest thing of all to deal with. I think to myself you were there when mum left us, you must...
