    The Good and the Ugly

The lady who works at the train station I go to London from for my radiotherapy everyday noticed that I was a regular and (because of my action man hair probably guessed my condition) told me how I could save a third on my rail ticket everyday by applying for a railcard, she has saved me over £50 on the cost of the travel for this treatment alone, what a lovely lady she was and how nice of her to actually notice me and take the time to help me.

On the way back from London I was sitting on the...

    Absent

So have not been on for a bit. Just so dang tired.

His chemo is going well. 3rd Oxaliplatin today. Was a later sitting so had time for 2nd breakfast. Took hot cordial drink which really seemed to help when the throat convulsion effect kicked in. We figure that the drip lowers core body temperature so adding warmed drink might help reverse the chill effect. So far so good. Think they speeded up the rate of the drip? Fairly sure it was 450 last time and was definitely 500 this time. For sure it was...

    Day 41 and. Day 1
Just when life could not get any worse and I thought I could not be in more pain my dad died today. I cannot cope with more grief and i cannot go through another funeral only 3 short weeks after my husbands funeral. How e hell do I begin to support my mother and children when my support died 5 weeks and 6 days ago?? Who will support me? I am really frightened tonight as I cant cope on any level and if it wasnt for my lovely kids I would be considering joining two of the greatest men I was ever...

    My story so far...

10 years ago my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. We were told every few months for 10 years that she was close to death. 10 years, 2 rounds of chemotherapy and radiotherapy and 2 major surgeries later and mum is still here and hopefully now clear. In the midst of it all I had quite a severe eating disorder; retrospectively I was trying to gain control of my life as the uncertainty in the situation with mum meant that I was desperately anxious and depressed. I had CBT for my eating...

    Day 39
Here I am 39 days later and I feel that everyone is expecting me to get back to normal now, back to working the two jobs i have with no one understanding that most of the time i feel wiped out. I don't feel that i can just plod on like nothing has happened and i am learning to do what i want not what other people think i want. Days are long as i wake early and i dont sleep well at night, coupled with the quiet of the house and the overall feeling of loneliness. Oh well i have decided to make no...

    Wednesday

Had to get the doctor out again for Dad. He is so confused, not knowing what he is doing or why. He was a bit more chatty today but not any real conversation. He has been prescribed something to stop his agitation and to help him get a good nights sleep.

One of the carers was in the room when doctor came and I know she looks after Dad, but I think she has too much input into things that don't concern her. She was the one who rang up to get them to take the bed away after Mam passed away without...

  • My chemotherapy journey
    Struggling.
    Evening all.

As I said in previous posts, I was advised not to work due to the environment I work in. It's starting to get to me now. I felt ok whilst Gail was off work even when it was due to her being unwell (flu). She went back to work on Monday and I have felt worse as each day passes, I don't know how I'll manage this for six months. I have never been off work in 37 years. I have been doing all the wee jobs that need done, worked in the garden, baked etc etc, but I feel myself getting...

    Going down hill fast

Dad has been getting worse since last week and it's horrible to watch.

Today we had a meeting with the district nurse and Marie Curie to discuss his care package. The district nurse wanted to reduce the care he was getting, but us and the Marie Curie said that he still needed 24 hour care, She did push for the Marie Curie to cut down their night care from four nights to two. The care team will be in the rest of the time.

She also wanted Dad to consider going into a hospice for a few days so...

    1st Timer!

Well I've set this blog up - so I suppose I ought to get on to posting on it. I am very new to this online community. But since My dads diagnosis on the 2nd April 2013, I've spent a lot of time on here searching and trying to find more information from people who've actually been affected by this awful illness.

I think I am still in a state of shock after dad's diagnosis. The hardest thing is that he's been unwell for about 2 & 1/2 years and its taken until now for it to be identified...
