Hi ALL
I Was On "watch and wait" now "watch and live", much has changed since diagnosis, many symptoms and side effects, but many more friends than those, who have helped me learn about the disease and how to live again. I have met many of us far and wide, young and old, pretreatment "watch and wait", first treatment, "watch and wait/remission", in further treatments and sadly have lost a few. All are friends who affect my life in one shape or form and allowed...
Well judging by the previous posts 12th july was a good day for a lot of people. I also finished my treatment today! After being diagnosed with breast cancer in May 2010, I have since had a mastectomy and reconstruction, chemo, radiotherapy and 12 months herceptin, the last of which was Tuesday. I have to see my onco in 6 weeks for follow up, but treatment is done! I have yet to have further surgery, but this will be in a few months time, I came home from the hospital yesterday, got straight on the...
Today I had my final Chemo - on my terms, i.e.no deviation in the full Fec75 dosage in spite of reacting harder than had been hoped for. my hb is 10.9, my wbc 11.2, plts 253 and nuetrophils are 6.9 but Ihave reached my target and although I am already moaning about the recognised reactions I thank heaven for aids such as portacaths and my staple Dom Peridone and the fact that this continues to work for me in spite of my fears regarding overuse - the nausea and at this stage the retching is quite...
Happy day! I took the final Capecitibine tablets this morning and I am now a drug-free zone! Cakes at work and cards and flowers at home.
I have an oncology review on Friday and I think I'll be booked in for a scan or two - but this marks a new phase: checking up on me instead of treating me. Just over one year since diagnosis and just under one year since treatment started.
Thank you everyone for your support and kind words over the past year. I've been so lucky with my family, friends and...
Thanx to Den5365 for your msg.
New to all this and IT skills 1 step up from Prehistoric so fingers crossed ... Anyone got any advice on what to do if someone with GBM4 has a siezure ? Dad's not had one yet, and may not, but they keep asking at appts and Mum(76) anxious about what to do in the event. I've given her advice on how to manage it and then call 999 but no one's actually told us ??

Back to see the consultant today. Made the choice for surgery but now I have to choose stoma or orthotopic bladder. I had thought stoma, but he made the bladder substitute sound more appealing than I'd thought. However, if I want the latter, I need to have another biopsy, this time of the bladder/urethra area to check it's healthy.
A long chat with the consultant, followed by a session with a specialist nurse. I've come home with a goodie bag of samples & leaflets.
Whichever I choose...
After having her grade 3 Anaplastic Astrocytoma debulked again in January my beautiful daughter stevie had a stroke. After rehab she was able to walk and talk again, but unfortunately the poor wee soul caught pnuemonia and has spent the last 3 months in hospital. Before going into a rehabilitation unit we were told that she had swelling on her brain, that was 4 weeks ago and we are waiting for an appointment to start her Chemo. Stevie is coming home next weekend as they cant do anymore for her, she...
Well, all those who've told me about Macmillans these past few weeks have been right on the ball!
I emailed them yesterday as they have a support centre inside Southampton Hospital itself. Within about fifteen minutes a response came back which was out of this world! I have been welcomed with open arms and the mail sounded wonderfully sincere. I've been offered all kinds of support and help and can't believe it after the koos-och-tech breast care(?) nurses here (apologies to anyone that...
Well folks, time to finish the packing (done in the mornings when I'm relatively pain free) and closing up shop here in Ireland after being a resident for 17 and a half years. It'll feel sad to leave, and even more scary to be living alone for chemo - but I already have some support lined up......unlike Ireland support is there in the UK - and I hope there are not any nurses like in the breast cancer unit in Cork - otherwise it'll be out of the frying pan and into the fire !
