So I had the portacath fitted last Thursday and my 1st chemo session will be in 3 days time, this Thursday.
Toni and Guy called me and my wig had arrived. I will be able to collect on Saturday. I've also ordered a couple of headwear items from Amazon, due to arrive this week. It was not too bad shopping for these items although I am not sure how I will feel once they arrive. I bought some false eyelashes last weekend, not a clue how to apply them but I will get some practice in.
Still getting...
However traumatic the first few days of diagnosis were, I knew I was going to be open about this from the start and share the news with those close to me and in my every day life. It was the one time in my life when I would not be able to pull off a brave face with a huge smile (like I always do) and people around me should know what has happened. Obviously telling my family was hard, they already knew about the various tests I was having and they encouraged me to be positive. Telling them that the...
I found out in week 5 that I would need to undergo a 12 week treatment plan of Taxol to be administered once a week, every week. At week 6, I will be having a portacath inserted so that they can just 'plug' in the chemo every week without having to try and locate a vein and risk damage to the veins from weekly cannulas inserted. This was booked get the Thursday and my first chemo session to star my one week after.
On Wednesday, I spend all day at Harley St for scans, to check there is nothing...

I was diagnosed with IDC Invasive Ductal Carcinoma Type 1- Grade 2 exactly one week ago. The day of the lumpectomy has finally arrived. As I wanted the procedure carried out as soon as possible, they were not able to get all the pre-operative procedures conducted on 1 site. My first appointment was at 9.00am in one hospital to have a radioactive dye injected into my breast. At 10.00am, I was due to have a 'guide wire...
Hello dear readers,
Ordinarily Mondays don't bother me but this coming one does. I'm there with the Boom Town Rats on this one. As a kind of harbinger of doom it also happens to be the 13th. If I were a person who worried about superstitions then this would worry me. Monday is results day.
I was thinking in the bath the other day, about this scanxiety, when a good analogy came to me, it is a bit like I am going to court. On Monday. The results are the jury delivering their verdict. Which I...
My wife was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in December 2012, which was followed with 6 sessions of chemo and 15 sessions of RT. She had a lump of about 25mm on her left breast and the lump was removed. This cancer had hormone positive receptors and following the treatment she was put on a hormone suppression drug. For the next few years things were fine. Her mammogram was clear last December. Then in March this year she noticed a change in the skin of her left breast she went to her GP who referred...
They could see the trees in the wood, and hear them talking their strange tree-talk: ‘Wisha-wisha-wisha-wisha!’
I have such wonderful memories of our parents reading Enid Blyton’s series of Faraway Tree books to us when we were young. I drew pictures of MoonFace and Silky to show my school teachers and dreamt of visiting the lands at the top of the tree.
In January 2012 I started again at the beginning.
Every night I sat with my dad and read about the adventures of Jo, Bessie and...
So today mum has been offered to be part of a trial, either Neptune which is running now or a new one coming up called Javelin100.
I know it's a 50/50 if you get the new drugs or standard chemo. So appt next week at Clatterbridge with the nurses to discuss more detail, sign consent forms etc.
Needs CT PET scan first and sample going off to US!
I know a few on here are currently going through this so any advice would be really appreciated!
Mum looking at starting treatment end of July...
Hello,
It has been 5 months now since mum passed away, there has not been one day I haven't thought about her. So many things remind me of her, silly things like songs or seeing a pair of shoes she would of loved. Each day is a battle.
Little things I'm struggling with is like going to advice, mum helping me out making my decisions for me and helping me pick an outfit for events. Things that my friends can do with their mums. It's not the same taking your dad into town to try and find a dress...
