    Freshers Week....

I remember the joys of last years fresher's week very well, everything was so exciting, meeting all these new people, going out and having a good time and generally having too much to drink as a result. This time round I don't think I have ever felt so miserable.

Leaving my mum with terminal cancer last Saturday was excruciatingly difficult. She was diagnosed in February whilst I was at university she decided to tell me on 16th August (a day I don't think ill ever forget). I hate being away...

  • My adventures with kidney cancer.
    Hello, my first post.

    Hi                                                                                September 14, 2013

My left kidney and left lung are type 4 cancerous known as RCC.

My family has been very supportive and I couldn’t have a better team of supporting players.

I have had several different side effects since I started on Pazopanib. I have been on Pazopanib for 39 days and counting.

I get nauseous, tired and have shortness of breath, but I am learning to cope with these problems. Some days all I can do is sit on the couch like a couch potato, other days...

  • Getting There
    Its Gone
Having started the week off not knowing if I could cope with losing my hair, its ended with me bald & very happy. Within a matter of days I was loosing so much hair it was everywhere. I didn't dare touch my head & showing just became a depressing event that I dreaded. I finally decided to take the bull by the horns & take control. I had purchased a couple of lovely hats (red123 ebay) from someone recommended to me by a friend, & plucked up the courage to talk wigs. I went to the hospital's hairdressers...

  • Getting There
    The power of the blog!
Until starting this blog I'd really only shared my thoughts & fears with my husband & sister. This has been so good for me & made me face deeper fears that I wouldn't have shared with anyone. It's so helpful reading others peoples blogs & people commenting on mine, it really helps having a way to just 'download' your head. Thank you to all the people who have sent me comments, they 've really helped. Even though I'm sitting here bald & feeling sick from by second chemo, I feel strangely positive...

    I survived Chemo and Radiotherapy
Now finished my chemo and radiotherapy.
How can something so poisonous like chemotherapy be so good for you. The chemo I was on was called FEC
The way it made me feel was horrible. The sickness, weakness, having no immune system, being so clinical, being bedridden and missing out on so much because you could not go near anyone who was ill in case I caught anything. I lost all my hair everywhere, I hated that too.
I ended up in hospital for nearly a week because...

  • My Amazing Dad
My Amazing Dad....the start of the end :(

My Dad has gradually gone downhill over the last month. Firstly he started getting really really tired and achey...and stopped his daily walk down to the shop to get his newspaper. Two weeks ago tomorrow we went to the hospital for his monthly blood test and nurse consultation. I knew something was wrong. He struggled to walk from the car to the hospital even though we had parked right outside. When we were in the hospital waiting area I remember looking at him thinking he LOOKED ill...for the first...

  • My Mastectomy Journey...
    Nearly 3 weeks post op
Hey guys. Sorry I've not been on since before op. but my op was now three weeks (on Thursday) past- I am so glad to be on the other side of things. The pain isn't as bad as I thought it would be which can only be a good thing. I stayed with my sister for two weeks but am now back at home, it was fun having her shower me the first few days.... Haha! In hospital I was given my own room, I did struggle. It was all so foreign to me. I felt so sore and heavy and it did take me a few days before I...

    Pneumothorax and chemotherapy
I have had a rough ride, my surgeon really struggled to put my port in, he told me he almost gave up, then I became a little out of breath, after an x ray it was apparent he had nipped my lung and it had deflated like a balloon, I had a drain fitted, to drain away all the escaped air from the lung, it was incredibly painful. Then I spent 4 days in hospital on the 4th day they took the drain out, but the lung still had a little way to go. I was told it would repair it self and was given breathing...
