I have tried to leave messages for people and nothing ever seems to work on this site since they messed with it.
I was along visiting Dad today and I went and spoke to the nurse, she said that because dad was managing to receive his medication orally he could do this at home, they know he wants to get home and they say they are doing the same things that could be done at home and he would be comfier. I agree with all that and can see it now I have calmed a little. What gets me is that since they took him off his IV fluids at the start of the week he has steadily went downhill again, he is sleeping all the time...
Hi All
Well the first chemo wasn’t as bad as I’d built it up to be in my mind, despite taking a full 8 hours due to me having a bit of a hot flush halfway through; they seemed more worried about it than I was.
I must admit that I was put on the back foot when I first entered the chemo room, because the reality of the situation suddenly hit me with renewed clarity. However within minutes I was put at my ease by the wonderful staff and fellow patients.
I have notice over the past weeks...
In case it's of any help to those newly diagnosed, here's my personal experience - though everyone's is different, and hopefully without my little blip through my ignorance/subsequent neglect in hospital the first week!
I went to have a swine flu jab this morning at GPs.
Everyone who had it was asked to sit in the waiting room afterwards for 10mins in case of adverse reactions.
I felt fine, but a man sitting across from me, with 2 boys (who I presumed were his sons) suddenly slumped back in his chair and started groaning. He fainted, and loads of people called for the doctor, who came running out of his room and tried to get the man on the floor. Oxygen was brought in, receptionists were flapping around, it was...

My twin brother is OK, he had his colonoscopy today and they removed one polyp.
He will be checked on a regular basis from now on but he is fine
Last tuesday we were told that mums tumors have not reduced in size and that they want to stop all treatment as nothing is working. We're all devastated as all they can do now is manage the symptoms as and when they appear. This is the news that we've all been dreading. Mum has always been focusing on the treatment never thinking about it not being available. She feels abandoned now as if all she can do is wait. We've said she needs to live her life as much as she can now. It's such a difficult time...
Well dad went to the hospital and they made the decision for him and took him off the tablets, saved him from agonising over it though. Although it sounds cruel I am relieved, even in the 2 weeks he has been off the drugs he has changed and is more the man that he was before. I know it is selfish as he is worried that now nothing is fighting the disease and that must be very frightening. I can only hope now that he can start to enjoy the things that he has lost and make the most of every moment as...
I have lost complete faith in the NHS. They was debating whether to send dad home or whether to wait for a bed to become available at the hospice. They took him off IV fluids the other night and they was to see how he was managing with drinking fluids. Both his legs have swollen up because the tumour is blocking both lymph nodes now so his legs are massive. I go in today and speak to the nurse and she tells me he has been taken off the waiting list for the hospice, they wouldnt have told us if I...
