  • The Myeloma Journey Begins....
    Angry, Sad, Confused!

Today I'm feeling angry! Cancer is taking over my life! It's all I talk about, think about and read about! I beat by battle in 2010 when I went into remission and there isn't a day that passes that I don't think it's returned as a part of my body gives off a little pain or something...however I always manage to rationalize my thoughts. Never the less, there is no escaping it! My partner has Multiple Myeloma and my closest friend and God Mother to my children has Breast Cancer! What is going on??...

    Still here, still smiling!

    Hi All

Sorry not been in, been a busy bee looking after mum, she's doing OK. Had a lovely xmas and New Year. She still fighting hard, been four yrs since she was diagnosed now. Still waiting to hear if the second lot of radio is happening or not. She is becoming increasingly uncomfortable but we're trying hard to keep it at bay.

I on the other hand am doing a bit better been diagnosed with wheat intolerance and a few other bits. All under control though, just plodding along and taking...

    Happy Christmas

A sunny December day was given over to cloud cover as I left the outpatients department with my "life changing news".  Some vague but persistent symptoms, some scans, the course of a few weeks and a label called cancer and there you go life changed.

Dark brown eyes, bright blue eyes, smokey grey eyes and beautiful cat-like green eyes all showed the same fear when I told them.

"Any questions" the handsome doctor said (I was in shock but not blind)

Only how long have I got...

    Dementia.. Great uncle
Oh dear oh dear, Today's not been the best, great uncle is so very confused, he's been up all night not able to sleep but not knowing its nighttime anyway, he got up in the night and tried to make himself a cuppa, only he actually made it in the kettle... Tea leaves and milk!!!! Thank god mother switches off all the plug sockets in the kitchen, he had put every ring on on the cooker...which was switched of at the socket but he'd managed to get the kettle to work by switching the socket back on...

It will soon be another anniversary......

2 weeks ago today I was back in the operating theatre having an ileostomy reversal.

The decision to have this done was one of the hardest decisions that I have ever had to make. Strange most people think, that decision should have been a non brainer but that bag began to feel like part of me and in an odd way I was attached to it as it symbolised one of the very reasons that I received an all clear and am still here today.

Initially I could not imagine living my life with two stoma's. I was devastated...

  • Endless heartache
    Another sleepless night

My husband was the old fashion sort with integrity & honour. For a man with such dignity the worst place to get skin cancer ( open sores spreading, weeping & bleeding) was in the groin. The sores followed the "knicker line" starting inside the top of his legs and he endured the embarrassment and pain of having them dressed every day. We were retired and together virtually all day every day & I was kept busy caring for him at home. After he died I think everything seemed surreal and of course there...

  • My mothers carer.
    Wednesday.
Well, not really that much to report apart from it was my day off today from going to mothers, so as I do every day I don't go, I rang her at 9.30 ( it has to be 9.30 as that's the time she says is the most convenient for her!) Apparently great uncle had fallen out of bed, the carer found him and called the paramedics. He haven't been on the floor too long because he was still warm, they reckon he's had another mini stroke ( I've lost count ).. They wanted the doctor to come out to him but apart...

    The Full Monty

Well, we went to the hospital today for Pat to have the full dose of Octreotide. It was quite painful and the nurse offered to do two doses next time as the needle is smaller but Pat said he would rather get it over in one. He asked her if she could go to a different plumbers merchant and get a smaller drainpipe next time! He has a marvellous sense of humour.

We were allowed home straight away and I had to pull over so he could be violently sick at the roadside. Made a note to myself to take a bowl...

  • Breast Cancer Stage 1 - A Journey of Trepidation
    18th January 2012

Finally the merry go round is slowing down. Saw my consultant this morning to discuss options following the failed biopsy last week when they couldn't take samples from the calcium deposits.

Option 1 - lumpectomy plus removal of the affected calcium area (then waiting for results on whether that was cancerous too - more stress while waiting plus radiotherapy treatment (I don't deal with stress and waiting very well). And knowing me I would still be worrying that every lump in the remaining breast...
