in…out…in…out, ooooh errr…don’t shake it all about

    (27 Dec, 2012)

Out of hospital on Christmas eve and Christmas morning I began to suspect it hadn’t been a totally wise decision as I got up and felt breathless and tight chested.

We had a quiet Christmas just me and Jane and the boy and much of mine was spent lying on the sofa or back in bed trying to get to the end of the day without having to phone the hospital again…. unfortunately this meant waiting mostly for lunch and present opening. Yes you did read right..presents come...

It's beginning to feel a lot like cancer...

    (24 Dec, 2012)

    (all hum along now….)

Second cycle of chemo and like a 5 year old expected to go to school Tuesday as well as Monday… and slowly dawning on them that they have to keep on going whether its fun or not, I’m slowly waking up to the reality of a long haul.

The difference between being ill and taking some medicine to get better and being ill (well …self destroying) and poisoning oneself to out-poison the interlopers is HUGE.

    Saturday night found...

    disorganised until the last

    (21 Dec, 2012)

Well… supposedly the world will be ending before I finish this post – so it won’t much matter that I’ve totally not got Christmas together this year.

Apologies to those of you who usually get a card off me… I just havn’t got my shit together except the ones the boy can drop round the neighbours.

Bigger apologies to those who usually get a present off me… If you get one it means I know something you like thats always welcome and I...

    hair today....

    (12 Dec, 2012)

yay….highly original [not] title for the long awaited hair loss blog.

The chemo I’m on is R CHOP and hair loss is pretty much definite…. its something I’ve been quite excited about as I spent chunks of my youth with a number 1 or number 2…. sometimes bequiffed…most oftener not. I like not having hair… I like the way it makes you have to face the world full square on and have nowhere to hide.

I think everyone should have their...

    Oh dear!

    (10 Dec, 2012)

It would seem that 100mg of morphine is not a good thing to be taking… specially not 100mg plus a spoonful of syrup whenever I feel i need one.

    hmmm.

I’m told that isn’t about pain relief its about addiction.

And I’ve taken that and a reducing morphine regime on the chin.

It felt quite bad having my syrup locked up in a drawer until the addiction word was mentioned at which point my stubborness instantly set in …I don’t DO addiction. I even gave...

    Oh!

    (10 Dec, 2012)

Thursday was quite an exciting day all round…. Jane buggered off to London for some Christamssy shenanigens and my c-s-b came to visit.

Now he doesn’t like being mentioned in my blog being a shy retiring creature but I can’t get round this day without mentioning him as he was the hero of the hour… so just forget you saw his initials and if you see him don’t mention it and certainly don’t poke him with a stick if he looks at all as if he might be deep in hibernation...

    s'no joke

    (3 Dec, 2012)

Feeling perkier today… feeling like i’d like to be doing stuff..a little bit of stuff beyond the lying in bed and dozing and reading I’ve been doing the last few days.

But we still have no heating…. and thats a huge disincentive to removing myself from my cocoon in one of the ony two rooms with a still working radiator.

As the temperatures get colder at night we are going into lock down…. last night all sleeping in one room, every blanket and duvet...

    one of those days

    (29 Nov, 2012)

I’m sure it’s not only the nhs does this kind of thing… its big companies/corporations…. its about customer related experience…its about communication.

We”ll  go back to yesterday during my first chemo session I had it all explained to me about how my lymphoma was a 1e and the ‘e’ means its not usually found where it has been ie totally outside a lymphnode… the chemo I’m having does going round the blood very well but doesn’t make ...

    Chemo and a VIP

    (28 Nov, 2012)

First chemotherapy session today… having been quite blase about it all I woke up this morning terrified, not just about an unknown process but the after effects, side effects etc etc.

I was jolly glad my daughter was coming with me to hold my hand and drive the car… 6 hours is a long stint.

We set off jolly early becuase of the ‘official opening’ of the hospital by Wills and Kate… but as it was we pretty much drove straight in and started early… so early the...

    Juggling morphine

    (28 Nov, 2012)

36 hours ago … my morphine usage was spiralling…  but let me fill you in how its used…. you have a base layer of long release drug that you take every twelve hours. It should keep you at a constant lever of relief…

Above and beyond that is a syrup taken by mouth as neccessary… usually 1-2 spoons every 4 to six hours.

You keep checking on the intake of the quick release stuff  until you work out the base level that gives you good cover and...
