  • My Mastectomy Journey...
    a month to go....

So I’ve got just under a month until my op.  Not sure how I’m feeling at the moment.  Im excited (not sure that’s the right word for it) as the sooner it’s done the sooner I can recover and get back to normal.  One of the things that’s annoying me and worrying me the most is the nipples.  Apparently I’ve been told that I will wait about 6 months after my op to then go back and have the nipples done.  Its bad enough that I have to have this surgery but I want to be back...

  • our fight against ovarian cancer
    results

Good morning to all, well got the results i was terrified of and it was good news, the tumor has responded to the chemo, so having another 3, then repeat the tests and see whats happening, so fingers crossed. Really suffered with constipation though, due to the oromorph, but got medication and as long as i am aware of it, it's under control. Not felt as good as the 3 weeks prior to last chemo, which is disappointing, but still able to carry on as normalish and had a lovely day in York with my daughter...

  • Getting my head around it
    Waiting for results

Due to see the consultant tomorrow.  He will have the results from the ultrasound-guided biopsy done two weeks ago.  What will he tell me? Up till now my diagnosis has been 'probable' rather than confirmed or certain.  If I have bone secondaries, how did they get there?  The answer is in the blood stream.  This must mean that secondary seedlings could have reached anywhere, from bones to brain, but apparently have decided to settle in my pelvic bones.

I call my bicalutamide tablets "weed-killer...

  • My Mastectomy Journey...
    1st Entry... A little info...

    My story so far….

I found out on 11th February 2013 that I am a BRCA1 carrier.  Truth be told, I wasn’t sure what to think… “Did this mean I was going to die?” was probably the first thought that went through my head, for some random reason.   I have a strong family history of cancer, breast and ovarian.  My mum was diagnosed at 31 and died at 36, as did her mum.  At the age of 29, I made the decision last November to find out if I was a carrier.  It was really Michelle...

  • Oh NO not triple neg breast cancer
    Roller coast slowing downay

I had a lovely holiday in the South West and felt so well I had recovered from mastectomy had a bra fitting at Nicola Jane, got some great bras no one would guess I only have one boob. I was okay with my new body image.

The night before my first FEC didn't sleep that well. It's a strange concept to know you are going to have side effects of the chemo that are going to make one ill. I received my chemo at East Surrey chemo suite, the staff are lovely however they had trouble putting a cannula in...

  • Oh NO not triple neg breast cancer
Stop the roller coaster I want off

A brief outline, I have a grade 3, multifocal, triple neg breast cancer with lymphovascular and perineural invasion and I have had a right mastectomy and sentinel node biopsy with clear margins.

It was Christmas that I noticed the lump but decided to not tell anyone until after the New Year. Any way it is only a cyst.

The day I boarded the roller coaster was the 26/2/13 when I was given the above infro when I was sitting in the consultants room listening to the histology report. He told us I had...

    Nothing is for ever....

It's a while since I wrote one of these. If i looked back, I would see how I've changed, how things have changed.

In an effort to get through the winter months early in bereavement, I decided to start piano lessons again after far too many years. The lessons became something I did each week and gave me something to work on at home when I was on my own. Time has passed. I recall trudging through thick snow to get to one or two lessons, wearing thick ski mitts to try and keep my fingers warm...

  • Settling into chemo
    Into the third cycle

We were out a very long time for the 3rd hospital intravenous appointment, but it went well and the greatest pleasure is not having so much arm tingling.  Could be a result of having a heat rap all the time it was going in or simple the really hot weather we have had.

Tiredness has of course gone on, but I didn't really appreciate how tired I get until yesterday when we went to my grandson's 'early' birthday party.  His mum is likely to produce his new brother too near his real August...

  • my family and i's fight against ovarian cancer!
    second cycle of chemo

Well i did'nt know when or if this second cycle of chemo was going to start or even starting at all, but thankfully the first one has worked a little so here we are giving it another chance to do its job a little further. Everyone was at the clinic with me for the results and i must admit i was in shock at the news, being me i was expecting the the worse. I am determined to look on the bright side in future and kick cancers backside for as long as i can!!!!!

I have found keeping  diary of the...
