    Why me?

I am 1 in 10 million. A bearer (just about) of PCNSL- primary central nervous system lymphoma- lymphoma of the brain in other words. I am 43 years old and a mum of 2 girls, a nearly 10year old and an 8year old. It’s not bloody easy having cancer, I hate it infact. I’ve tried to be calm and positive but it’s not doing it for me. I’m angry and just a bit pissed off. How do I achieve the zen like calm that others have? Answers on a postcard please

    Guess who's back, back again...

    ...well, Happy New Year!

I had a great Christmas, and the wonderful trip to New York and Washington D.C. that my wife got me when I was diagnosed as something to look forward to was AMAZING.  That is, until the very last day, when my phone rang at 07:30 local time and my oncologists secretary asked me if I could go in, that day.

We agreed I would call on my return to the UK, I was flying home that night anyway.  I called when I got home and got an appointment for this Monday, but the...

  • My journey
    2017

I know I’m a few days late but Happy New Year. I can’t say I’m sad to see the back of 2017. It was probably one of the most traumatic years of my life.

And I suppose now is as good a time as any to reflect on the year as a whole. It didn’t start too well when I was admitted to hospital on New Year’s Day with an infected PICC line. The first of a number of stays in hospital. Next came my bowel surgery, the removal of my entire large colon, my anus and rectum. Drastic and life changing...

    Optima trial

Signed up for Optima trial today.  Also given date for chemotherapy to start on 5 February in case I am in the control group or the Prosigna test indicates high risk.  I will have radiotherapy and hormone treatment as well.  I should know by 29 January whether I definitely having chemo or not.

    Counting Calories

So as I move away from a life dominated by cancer and appointments, it's time to try and start feeling a little like me again.

I'm the heaviest I've ever been weighing in at 11 stone, I'm happiest at around 8st 10lbs, apologies to those of you who use those new fangled kgs I have no idea what it translates to. I'm still feeling swollen I assume from the steroids, but I also have a fair amount of joint pain and wonder if carrying around this extra weight isn't helping. ...

Cancer Treatment in the UK for a Canadian citizen

Hi - my grandma has been diagnosed with cancer. She had been splitting her time between Canada and Uk since her husband passed. She is a Canadian citizen and is currently in Canada. Does anyone know if she could receive treatment and care in the uk as she is a senior? Her home care would be easier to arrange here. Has anyone seen similar scenarios? Or have any information on how to find out more? Many thanks

  • My CLL Story....
    2nd Cycle of FCR Chemotherapy

My 2nd cycle was delayed a week because my bloods hadn’t recovered enough, which apparently is quite common. I received an injection to boost my Bloods last week and I successfully started my 2nd cycle yesterday.

I’ve been feeling really good. Apart from around 9 days during the first cycle I’ve been feeling normal. It feels so good to know my lumps have reduced. My wbc are at 2.7

I know this week I will feel pretty wiped out, tired, nauseous etc, but I also know I will bounce back at...

11 December and looking forward to Christmas.  Quick GP visit to sort out this" water infection?". Fast forward just 4 weeks and Im now very familiar with terms like MRI scan, T3a malignant prostate carcinoma , biopsy(what a nightmare) . Now waiting for a bone scan cos of back and hip pain and the results of the biopsy to see how aggressive the little blighter is . How quickly life changes. Still one positve is that the consultant said that it will be a long road to which I replied " I flipping well...
