    One Small Step
Firstly thanks Comkick I appreciate the support, to clear up the point you made - yes I am having a mini transplant or using the hospital terminology "reduced intensity peripheral blood stem cell transplant" now isn't that a tongue twister if ever there was one! Secondly, hooray one of the things that has been causing me stress is finally being sorted out. As previously stated my sister lives in Australia and will be coming to the UK to provide the stem cells for me. As we are having to pay for...

    Desensitization is over
Well, since it turned out I was allergic to carboplatin I needed the desensitization to it in ICU. I had it two days ago now and so far so good...no reactions. Not allergic to the paclitaxol either...yahoo!! The doctor who invented this procedure is Mariana Castell...google her...she's legit. She is affiliated with the Brigham and Women's hospital in Boston Massachussetts in the US. The hospital is in the top of its field...you can google it too. Sometimes life IS good. I'm going to rest now...

    Let Us Eat Cake!
Now, I'm not one to complain. The nurses in our chemo suite are chipper, chatty and charming, doing a job I could never do, and why they do not all receive gongs in the Hons List escapes me. I know it's not their fault, but is feeding chemo patients another postcode lottery factor?? We get the following fare offered: - Soup. I make a vat of it every 3 days or so at home for nourishment, which I maintain by careful sealing and refridgeration. Am I wrong in having an entrenched idea of it festering...

    Looking for advice please
Looking for advice - My mum had her last chemo 4 weeks ago, was supposed to start another cycle last Thursday, but, her bloods were very low so, no chemo, my mum is very weak & appears to be getting weaker! is this normal?, (was her 4th cycle of chemo) I thought that with her not having had her chemo for a month that she might start to pick up, (her tumour had shrunk significantly - result of scan mid January) also very poor appettite. At her consultation on Thursday she did,nt see her normal consultant...

    CML Transplant
Well I guess it is one thing to decide to create a blog but quite another when you start thinking about what to put in it. I guess a little background is the place to start. I was diagnosed with CML in May 2007. Treatment with Imatinib and Dasatinib has failed, my blood counts fall too low and I can't tolerate enough of the drugs to work on the cancer. The decision was made in Jan of 2009 that I would have a stem cell transplant at Addenbrooke's hospital in Cambridge and the provisional date is...

Warning - not to do with cancer!!!
Hi all, Just thought I would share this 'funny' (or not) with you. Sitting here with freezing cold feet, so had an ingenous idea, thought I would put my socks in the microwave wrapped in kitchen roll to warm them up. Never done this before, so set the timer for 2 minutes. Then after about 1 minute there was smoke coming out of the microwave and my socks and the kitchen roll had set on fire!!! The whole kitchen stinksof smoke now and I can hardly breathe!!! Take note if your chemo brain tells...

    A new day
Okay, despite a disgusting night the sun did come out this morning! I feel much better this morning after the proverbial, 'Tomorrow is another day". But holy smokes, what a night...8 hours worth, or something close to an eternity. I was supposed to have my head buzz-cut yesterday because I can't stand the hairs falling out and on everything and everyone. I asked honey to buy a buzzer and a felt hat, or whatever he likes, before he comes home from work. It will add levity to such a gruesome time...

    Not feeling so well
Yesterday was quite a long day. We spent 4 hours at the allergist's office and found out I am allergic to carboplatin. So some time next week I will be desensitized to it so I can stay on my same regime. They will do it in ICU overnight. Then I had MD and blood draw visits and finally a CT scan which made me SICK. It was the contrast material that I had to swollow on an empty stomach that did it. So here I am after a wretched night (word chosen) and after zofran and compazine for the nausea...

    Hot flashes
Does anyone have experience of a forced menopause through chemo (I am on FEC)? I have been suffering with frequent hot flashes and night sweats and wonder how long and intensive this might be. Any tips for reducing symptoms would be appreciated. Maureen with the redhot face!
