Getting ready for the second innings
I'm delighted to say that the last 3 weeks have been a bit up and down but nothing unbearable.... I had a follow up appointment today to have my blood checked. The results were good so I'm good to go for my second treatment on Monday. The only blot on this otherwise somewhat boring landscape is that I asked them to use the port to take my blood to make sure it was working for Monday..... and it didn’t! Despite the port being easy to feel now the swelling has gone down (although it is still...

    Octreotide Treatment for Thymoma
I was diagnosed with inoperable invasive thymoma (Stage III C) in October 2007, and underwent 6 rounds of chemo which shrank the tumour by about a quarter. Unfortunately my latest scan in June showed that it is growing again. My consultant has arranged for me to have an octreotide scan, to see if we could use this therapy to control the thymoma from here. I will be getting the results next week. I know absolutely nothing about this treatment and wondered whether anyone has any experience they might...

I should learn to read forms properly
We got the forms through today to apply for disability living allowance. It will take a week to fill it in. while I was going through drawers though I came across a form that our GP had given me when Ian was in ITU. I didn't know what it was for and was in too much of a state at the time to find out. Looked at it properly today. It was a DS 1500! that was 3 years ago. Do you think it will be still usable LOL

    One More Hurdle
Today I visited my mum in hospital and after being read the wrong notes! I can only say I am glad it was me hearing someelses rather than another poor family being read my mum's because they would have been in shock, gone in with a cold come out with cancer!! Anyway the consultant came to visit whilst I was there with my mum's MRI scan results. Sat there was me and my dad and my mum lying on a bed. The consultant confirmed that the chemo had not worked at all and the tumor in the lung has vastly...

    Feeling down in the Dumps
I am feeling down in the dumps today. Saw my Oncologist yesterday for my three month check my C125 has gone up a bit more not too bad but l am going to have a CTscan to see where it is. I usually respond well to the marker quite well so we know it is back some where. It is probably too small to see yet. It is just that l only finished chemo in November and l would have liked a bit of time before the watchful waiting started. This was my third round of chemo. My first was in 2001. I know l should...

    Not Ready To Let Go
Today has been a roller coaster of emotion and fears and I am still feeling very frightened, confused and angry. Today my mum ended up back in hospital with high calcium. I am aware that this can happen in the later stages of cancer. Fear took over me, and it still has, that my mum is further towards the end than I had thought and that maybe time is running out quicker than I had thought it would. Does God not know that I am not ready for him to take my mother away from me? Does God not know...

First blog post, time to decompress........
OK, been a roller coaster 3 weeks since I fitted 3 times in 45 minutes and was diagnosed extremely promptly with a brain tumour in my right frontal lobe. Using 20:20 hindsight all of the symptoms I'd encountered over perhaps a 3 1/2 month period all fitted into place, a waking headache on a couple of occasions, general feeling of malaise, some very subtle but now to me obvious symptoms of raised intra-cranial pressure, extremely poor memory, personality changes noted by those nearest & dearest to...
