I'm so glad this site exists
Oh this site makes me feel so much better. I've been bottling up a lot of feelings I had for the longest time, and now for the first time ever I don't feel so crazy, or childish, or selfish.

    counselling, or lack of
Intested to see the earlier blog asking about counselling. In this part of the Midlands, none is available. Our GPs are very supportive, but we really don't like bothering them unless there is a medical reason. Even though they show genuine concern , they can only offer sleeping tablets and anti-depressants. The local cuncil run carers association is only concernd with helping carers get benefits. I did ask at the local hospce, but nothing there either. On the subject of the hospice, unbeknown...

So, I'm blogging now.. Some of you know me from chat. I'm a carer, not a patient. My son Frankie...........he's on week 9 of his treatment for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia. He's had such a great week it's been like seeing the old Frankie again. The lively one, the cheeky one. But yesterday he had his Vincristine (chemo) in his line and he's tired and can't get up the stairs. It's awful to see a 4 year old boy go through this. It's awful for anyone with cancer. All he wants to do today is lie...

    Day 5 Tax
Well.... this has been an interesting 5 days. Treatment day was a breeze and finished with me feeling quite energetic. This wasn’t just ‘not feeling tired,’ it was spontaneous motivation to scrub the bathroom. Given that I am no domestic goddess, this was as welcome as it was a surprise! Day 2 followed in a similar vein with lots of housework getting done (this time focussed in the kitchen). It felt great – I realised that had forgotten what normal felt like. I felt that I had started...

    head and neck
Steve last session of the 60 was last Tuesday, he has a very sore throat and loads of that awful thick mucus he keeps trying to shift, his neck was weeping and bleeding at the end and he sounds like a frog bless him a very tired one!, we now have an outpatients app for 11th Sept. As soon as he has that he wanted to hop in a plane and go to UK which I was very much against, all those germs you breath in on a 3 hour flight, I really didnt think that was a good idea, he pleaded with with that after...

    My Lovely Dad
My Dad has had 2 chemo sessions so far to help him with lung cancer. He is on the GemCarbo regime. I cannot believe it but he has had no side effects from the chemo, and actually feels better already. His cough is not so bad, and he can talk without gasping for breath. I can't tell you how delighted I am. We were all so scared when he started chemo, as you hear about so many awful side effects, but, touch wood, he has been really lucky. We are all being very positive and doing lots of things...

Another day of scans over, onwards and upwards.
Hi all, had my CT scan and bone scan today. CT very weird especially when they put the stuff in your arm and you feel like you are peeing!! Nowhere near as long as the MRI and not as claustrophobic. Feel very drained now though, think the anticipation is worse than the actual tests. Everyone was so pleasant and made me feel completely at ease. Had the radioactive stuff put in my arm then went to lunch, never realised how hard it is to drink so much fluid when you have to. Thought I had to drink...

    New York, New York!!
Todays (tonights) blog is bitter sweet really. The last couple of days have been really difficult for me emotionally. I think it was after my appointment Monday and the impending start of treatment that everything has hit me like a ton of bricks. I didnt go to work yesterday, I really panicked about 5 minutes before I was due to go. I had to get some space so I just went off for the afternoon, then everyone got worried which I didnt intend on. They have given me the week off but I really dont...

    Darren's Pelvic Tumour
12th Sept - been to see my GP about getting a Macmillan grant to cover my partners accomodation whilst i'm in hospital in London. The Marsden has invited me back for another scan 2nd Sept, and then rang today to say they have just had the scans through for the one i had back at the end of July at Christies. Hopefully will find out tomorrow that i don't need another visit.
