When it seems like the world hates you...

I've now not had any treatment since August.

I went to London nearly 7 weeks ago for a consultatin with regards to going on a trial, because chemotherapy didn't work, and I can't have anymore radiotherapy, and the hospital down there (Royal Free) had to get funding from my local PCT.

I've now been waiting all that time, and my PCT only met last week. Just had a call from the Royal Free to say my local PCT haven't decided, and need more information before they can decide. So now I have...

    Awful Week.......

Well the awful week is over, Dad got an infection and spent last week in hospital having intravenous antibiotics, saline and two blood transfusions. Poor thing.  Seeing my Dad so tearful is so sad and hard, my protector now needs protecting.  Its hard because I remember all the times he looked after me, carrying me when I was little and I fell asleep, being there for me, holding my hand and being the best Dad.  But, I guess this is the way life goes.

Anyway, he got out at the end of the week, still...

    panic setting in

Tuesday we receive the results of the latest scan. I am worried. What could the results be? Stabilised - I hope, spread to the lymph glands - then what?, further spread then what? I know that I should just wait and see but I am sure that lots of you out ther understand how I am feeling. If it has become either stable or has gone beyond hope we will try to get back to the UK. The health care here is brilliant but if there is no hope your requirements change.

Why do i feel like a hypochrondiac??

I was  misdiagnosed  in April 2008 (was told I had a benign liver tumour)but after having it removed in September 2008 i was told it was actually liver cancer. I have had a few issues since then the main one being a bile leak which lead to sepsis and quite a few more hospital stays.

I went to the Gp last week(for the first time in about 6 months)and i got the feeling i was being a bit of a nuisance.I pulled a muscle in my chest(felt like i was having a heart attack and was having trouble breathing...

ONLY A SMALL THING AND SILLY I KNOW BUT STILL GUTTED!

Had a call from national blood service today to remind me of my appointment to donate my 68th pint next week, I had to tell them about to start chemo and could they put my file on hold for a while.  I was really surprised and gutted when they told me I would no longer be able to give blood and "thank you for the last 19 years of donations".

Given everything we go through with BC, ops, chemo, radio, hormone therapy you'd think this wouldn't matter but it really did, I was hoping to make...

The Service was all he would have wished for his choice of songs went down a treat and there were loads of laughs just as he planned. I was astounded at the turnout, for an Englishman in Scotland he knew more people than me. He was very popular for being just "a nice guy".

How proud he would have been of the family. Claire for all the support she has been to me and all the running around she and Joni have done The song Joni found for him was just perfect. and Christopher for his recording...

Week 5 of mum being home

Mum's been at home now going into her fifth week. Discharged in early February, having been told there's nothing more that can be done, so over to palliative care. Macmillan nurses have been brilliant - both in the hospital and now in the community. Lorraine visits weekly, and gives mum the confidence and comfort that she really needs.

Dad's doing brilliantly, mostly. I've not lived at home for over 20 years, and finding the whole thing really surreal. From my father's denial and never...

  • My Melanoma Radiotherapy Diary
Weekend, day 5 to 9 of radiotherapy

No updates for a week as laptop had a virus and was poorly.  It recovered with a bit of help from my hubby.  Pity it's not that easy with Melanoma!!

Anyway, had a nice relaxing weekend and did as little as possible.  Still felt sick on and off but felt ok to have curry for tea on Saturday (so couldn't have been that bad!!).  Went out to DIY shops to look at tiles etc for the bathroom.  Still can't decide.

So back to the QE in Birmingham on Monday.  On my own this week.  It's only the treatment...

    It's over

Dad passed away on Thursday, at home with us beside him. It was what he wanted, so we're glad about that. We're all very sad, but we didn't want him to suffer any longer. RIP. X
