ONLY A SMALL THING AND SILLY I KNOW BUT STILL GUTTED!

Less than one minute read time.

Had a call from national blood service today to remind me of my appointment to donate my 68th pint next week, I had to tell them about to start chemo and could they put my file on hold for a while.  I was really surprised and gutted when they told me I would no longer be able to give blood and "thank you for the last 19 years of donations".

Given everything we go through with BC, ops, chemo, radio, hormone therapy you'd think this wouldn't matter but it really did, I was hoping to make it to 100 pints and meet the queen for tea or something like that!!!

This journey has many twists and turns and guess just starting out so not sure whats round the next bend.

I do know that I will  stay strong,  I am going to get through this and come out the other end with the sun on my face and maybe not the wind in my hair (but on my head)  I am going to do this and still be me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I cried when the blood doning service told me "my services were no longer required" after informing them I'd had surgery for a malignant brain tumour.

Giving blood was a family thing, my dad gave around 80 pints before he had to stop on medical grounds and as soon as we were old enough, we were taken along too.

I only donated around 10 pints (on the new system) - due to time off between my miscarriages & babies but......I was still really sad to have to stop.

Imagine what your 67 pints may have done throughout your service, the lives you may have saved.  You did an amazing service to the community.  Be proud of yourself.

    Good luck with your treatment.

    Love & Strength

I was exactly the same and really quite annoyed that they didn't want my blood! At least the mosquito's still want it!  Wish it was the other way round though!

It might only be a small thing, but its an important one, especially to you. As a blood donor myself (who has been rejected a few times) i can imagine how you must feel. But don't let it get you down, you've done your bit - and it's a lot more than some do. Take care, Val X
