    Jimbo/Jas34 ?

Having said I hardly ever pop in, here I am again.

My hubby, Mike On The Bike and Jim stay in touch quite regularly. Some of you may know that Jim is off to hospital today, Saturday 6th.  His operation is scheduled for Monday.

I'm sure everyone here wishes him all the very best and hopes that the op is successful and Jim recovers very soon.

His wife will be in touch to let us know how Jim is doing and as soon as we know any news, we'll post a blog to let you all know whats happening.

    treatment

Today we were back at the hospital and it's all sorted and agreed, I now need treating with Cisplatin as my cancer is growing so fast, and I am uncomfortable with the pressure I am getting.

All sounds fine, what's the problem?  The day unit have no spaces in the whole of next week to fit me in!!  Anybody got any idea where I go from here?  I was hoping that I would be 'done' on Monday  and the pain might go away.

Anyway, as we had Stella (our motorhome) with us we stopped at Langstone...

  • A view from the other side of the ditch
    another scan

Ron had his post chemo scan on Tuesday. It was done at the scanner in Brive which is only 20 min away. A doctor showed us a single shot from the scan which showed some liquid on the lung. This worried Ron as it previously built up to the extent that he was taken in as an emergency admission and had it drained and "talced" The doctor said that unless it caused a problem they would do nothing. We will see the oncologist to discuss the situation next Tuesday. My blood pressure has been very high lately...

There's a Vibe ... and there are clinical trials and the wonders of 'backing up and restoring ...'

I was going to preface this blog post by saying ‘I am a ‘Carer’ and my husband’s prognosis is very bleak indeed …’   However, I have several problems with that.  One is that the term ‘carer’ is not a term which fits me well because it suggests a stage of dependency which my husband has not reached and, as far as he is concerned, will not reach - ever.   And the other problems?  I am not prepared to go into those; suffice it to say I have been...

MASTECTOMY NOT LUMPECTOMY AS PREVIOUSLY THOUGHT

Went to see the Breast Cancer nurse yesterday and was told that the MDT had decided a mastectomy would be better for me than a lumpectomy as the cancer is a fast growing one and if they did a lumpectomy they would have to take a lot of surrounding tissue away and then there would still not be any guarantee that they got all the cancer and that would mean they may have to operate again etc.

Cried and cried... some days am absolutely fine with it, thinking breast gone, cancer gone, and then other...

  • I'm losing my mum
    rant

My mum has inoperable breast cancer.  She had breast cancer before, and after an operation and six months of chemo, she beat it, but it came back in August 09 and this time its not going to go away.  She's on chemo, but they can't operate to remove it (the doctor described it as being like getting ink out of paper), and eventually its going to spread.  Predictably we don't have a real time frame, but when she told me she said she'd probably still be around next year, but after that there's no...

mad but doing it for dad

Have entered the "Race for Life" and providing the metal work holding my spine together is prepared to play the game I'm RUNNING.  Most of my family and friends whilst supporting my decision to enter think i am mad to try and run it.

Was at the gym today getting to grips with the treadmill under the supervision of a very scary personal trainer.  She only let me jog for about 1 min and although it wasn't as bad as i expected some parts of me could well disagree!!!!!!!!

    Still no...

I don't know whether to laugh or cry
For new readers, many of us carers try to make light as best we can of our dreadful situations. The following post is written in that vein. Underneath the banter is very frightened wife trying to live with the knowledge that her husband is terminally ill. In the last episode, our gallant leading man (LM) was bravely fighting shingles, and a related eye problem. Now read on. The eye problem is abated, and the shingles have responded well to treatment. GP has assured him that any residual...
