  • My Melanoma Radiotherapy Diary
    Day 15 of Radiotherapy

It's finished!!  My last day of radiotherapy and it's done!!

The machine in the normal room that I'm in was broken so had to go to a different room and have different nurses, but to be honest nothing could have ruined my day today.  That was my last time on the machine.  I did find the nurses that normally did my treatment as I had a box of chocolates to give them.  Well, I'd seen them every day for 3 weeks so just wanted to say thanks to them.

The sun is shining, I've finished my...

    Gone but never ever forgotten!
    Hi Everyone

Sadly Peter, passed away this morning at 10.00.  It has been a very long weekend, Sam, Tim, Nic and Russ have been staying here with us since Friday which has been very nice as I could concentrate on him totally!  It has not been an experience I would wish on my worst enemy, he was not ready to leave us quite now so when he went it was a huge relief.  We have had such brilliant support from the District Nurses, there is not enough money in the world to pay for what they have done for us...

From a beautiful day to a scary one!!
Yesterday, dad and i took my 3 children to the zoo. Dad was determined he wanted to go as my mum was doing a charity abseil down the castle at the zoo so we went early to see the animals. I was so worried about dad but my god he walked mine and the children's legs off. It was a wonderful day with lots of smiles and laughter and memories i will treasure forever.Today we went to mum and dad's for a mothers day lunch and dad looked very tired and very grey in the face. I was helping mum with lunch...

A Happy Mothers Day to all the 'Mothers' out there!

    Happy Mothers Day!

U might be wondering why I have put 'Mothers' in my title, well that is because this is not only to wish all the women with children a Happy Mothers Day, but to wish all the women who care for others as if they were their children, a Happy Mothers Day. This might sound a tad odd, and no the chemo hasn't completely addled my brain but since i joined this site, there have been many people who have shown great care and concern towards me. Albeit it isn't only the ladies but today...

I don't know whether to laugh or cry Part 2

    New readers start here.

My husband, (Leading Man) was diagnosed with Mesothelioma in September 2008.  The prognosis was six months to live, or possibly nine with treatment. When UK medicine had given him what limited treatment was available on the NHS, he turned to Professor Vogel of Frankfurt University for help.  The Professor has achieved a much higher survival rate for lung and liver cancer patients by administering chemotherapy directly to tumours, via a line inserted into the groin.  The...

    Technical Question
Whenever I post to a forum, I type my contribution in neat paragraphs. Then, when I post, all that shows is a block of text. Can someone please tell me how change my set up. I thought I was computer literate .......................

    Good news then bad news

Went to get my scan results which were clear. Only have 1 more chemo to go so Onc said to forget it,  that 11 is enough. Yippee! Then he said that he wants me to have radiotherapy and to go home for 6 weeks to get over the chemo, then go back and discuss it. My cancer has gone and in the empty space is now the rest of my bowel which has slipped down to fill it. He said he is a little worried about that.

Why couldn't it just be all over. The radiotherapy is to stop it coming back in that place again...

    (17) An update ....

    ... on the medical front.

For those who have risked looking in for the first time, a brief summary of my treatment so far. Weekly Taxol chemo from July to November last year which did a wonderful job of shrinking the tumours. December to February this year I've been on Arimidex (hormone therapy). A CT scan at the end of February showed that the Arimidex had done nothing and the time spent on it has allowed the tumours to progress again.

So next week it's back on to weekly chemo for me but...

a poem by Ruth Ann Mahaffrey

    Hi all this is Susanah.

I just wanted to write a poem somebody sent to me after my husband died its called "A Letter from Heaven".

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say, but first of all to let you know that I have arrived O.K. I am writing this from heaven, where I dwell with God above, where there is no more tears or sadness just eternal love. Please do not be unhappy because I'm out of sight, remember that I'm with you every morning noon and night.  That day...

    I actually have an update.....

Hi everyone, and thanks for the kind messages :)

I went down to the Christie today, and saw one of the main doctors. (Kim)
She agreed it's time they intervened, and they have decided I will be having Vinblastine every 2 weeks, until I get accepted on the trial - then I will stop, and have to be off chemo for a month before I start the trial.
    I start next Wednesday.
I've had this drug before, 8 years ago when I first had chemo, but never on it's own.
I've also been put onto steroids again....
