    Now Ron's mum

Ron's mum has been admitted to hospital today with acute renal failure. She had been getting worse and worse over the last year and had just been admitted to a care home as his dad, who is 85, could not cope anymore. I do rather wonder whether her symptoms had been put down to her age(84) and general dementia but it's too late for recriminations. It is possible that she wont last the day out. Being so far away means that he can't easily go to see her even if with the chemo he is allowed to travel...

My dad has prostrate cancer, he will have hormone therapy and radiotherapy. today the consultant said its 'aggressive' cancer... what does that mean?

I think i have been in denial until today, hearing the consultant explain the side effects threw me completely.

    i'm just so scared

    Day 14 of Radiotherapy

Really early appointment this morning so a bit of a rush.  I was in getting changed when they called my name.  I was in and out of the hospital within 15 minutes!!!  I only have one more treatment left, on Monday.  It's a shame I have to go back again after the weekend, but that's just the way it is.

I haven't seen any doctor or anyone throughout my treatment and not heard from anyone about what happens next.  Talked to the nurses today and I should have had a follow up appointment through...

    Results. Good News

    Hi everyone

Had my 3 week check with consultant today. He is very happy with my recovery from surgery. Says I am healing well which is good news.

He also said that my resulst from my lymph nodes have come back and they are all completely cancer free. Also they got clear margins around the tumor. So I dont need to have any further treatment which is very exciting news.

I am so happy, but at the same time feel a little lost. What now?

Guess thats a question for tommorrow after I celebrate tonight...

    I'm lost

    Hi everyone,

Never done a blog before or even belonged to an online community - but I want to give this a try.

What I should have said for my open line was - Hello....I'm pleased to me you. I've recently been diagnosed with Breat cancer (DCIS) and I feel quite alone right now.

Going to the hospital in a moment to talk about reconstruction surgery and my mastectomy.

These are words I thought I'd never hear myself saying.

Anyway - while I'm at the hospital, I really hope someone...

There's a Vibe ... and there are mice and mavericks and cluster headaches.

Well, my dear readers, the writer of our script has been throwing in a few more surprises.
We will try to keep the tone light:   the week begins with Our Hero taking himself off to have his monthly infusion of Mistletoe which is designed to keep the immune system in trim – and we do indeed think it works.  After all, he is still with us, Our Hero, despite the gloomy oncologist’s prognosis.
However, his journey is not smooth:  he arrives at his destination with black smoke belching...

    good news at last

My son's girlfriend gave birth this morning to a healthy girl.  Mother and baby are doing well.  Steve would have loved this.  At last I have some good news to celebrate

    Another day

Ron has had his first chemo session at home. This is very comforting but surely is not at all cost effective. We picked up various medicins from the pharmacy yesterday(I think that we should be due some sort of pressie for the amount of business we have put their way) Today a "black box" was delivered, a bit like a tool box, and the nurse turned up witha further carrier bag full of bits. The actual biz took abouth 1 1/2 hours. Further nurse intervention will be ongoing for several days. ...

  • My Melanoma Radiotherapy Diary
    Day 13 of Radiotherapy

Getting close to the end of treatment now and that's what I'm focusing on.  I'm tired and the skin is sore but I'm nearly done.

Today has been quite uneventful.  Got the train, got there early.  Got in for treatment, came home. fell asleep on the sofa.  Went to pick the girls up from school.  Then the madness began.  How can they eat so much?  Where do they put it all.  My 5 year old can eat her weight in chocolate but try to get her to eat fruit and it's like pulling teeth!!!

    I have...
