Cancer Survivors in U.S. Climbed 19% in 2007 From 2001, CDC Says in Report

The number of U.S. cancer survivors increased to 11.7 million in 2007, a 19 percent rise from 2001.

About 4.7 million Americans received their cancer diagnosis at least 10 years earlier, according to the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, published by the Atlanta-based Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. People living with breast cancer are the largest group and comprised 22 percent of the patients, followed by those with prostate cancer, representing 19 percent of the survivors.

    cheesed off

Sorry to sound so misserable but iam feeling realy pxxxxd off today. I am fed up of being alone every night watching mindless t.v.

when jim was alive we would be chatting away, discussing where we would be going tommorow going to see the grand-children doing every day things, untill that vile, hideouse agressive and evil disease enters and destroys lives.

Iam sorry to say these things but will cancer ever be erradicated? I think to myself why the hell are we here. Its the survival of the fittest...

Hi everyone, I have just completed a 4 month course of Taxotere with supporting steroids, duing this time I have put on over 2 stones, my face is very puffy as are my hands and feet. Bang! There goes the French doors

In January I was having romantic dinners on the beach in Koh Samui, in February I had a fantastic annual appraisal at work and planning the year ahead with my team, in March on a routine check up my doctor tells me I have a tumour on my tonsil that is probably benign but will need removing.

The recovery from the tonsillectomy has been as long and painful as the doctors predicted.  Seriously, if I managed to shower and eat, it was a 'good' day.

    Relief

Hey ho, this time last week i was in bits waiting to go for my ultrasound and breast surgeon had already made the appiontment for me to see the onc. But whoop whoop the ultra sound was ok, the swelling by my collar bone still there, but they think it may by lymph fluid from my arm. I hit such a low last week waiting, the waiting is always the worse.

    Halfway there!!!

Yeah I had my third chemo yesterday can't believe I  am half way there, I know lots of people on her said it would go quickly and thank goodness it does! Fingers crossed I am still feeling fine, side effects even less than the last times, of course they may kick in later so I'm not counting my chickens just yet.

I think staying positive and keeping as healthy as possible helps also my alternative stuff I take, or perhaps its all just down to luck, which as I said I know could change.

    Hope...

    Post Nephrectomy +5 days

Hi all.  Well I had my left kidney surgically removed 5 days ago.  Luckily the cancer was completely confined to the kidney and hadn't travelled to lymph nodes etc. so should be all fine.  Will know for sure in 6 weeks time.  I'm now back at home feeling very, very sore, and barely able to walk.  Worse than the pain from the wounds, which kind of settles once you stay still, is the pain at the back of my shoulders and neck, which is a sickening, agonising pain that occurs every time I have moved...
