  • The mysteries of Mo
    October 30th 2011

For a change I went to visit Mo in the afternoon normally I visit in the mornings only because Ewa was working in the afternoons over the weekend. We try and work it as best we can so at least somebody's with Mo on and off all day, well for at least 3-4 hours each time at least. The nursing staff at the hospice do a brilliant job when were not there which makes things a little easier for us all. I turned up today and there were people everywhere,a big marquee set up in the grounds and even a doughnut...

  • The mysteries of Mo
    October 28th 2011

I went to see Mo today didn't see her yesterday, she sort of recognised me but she was very sleepy due to the increase in the morphine dosage in the syringe driver. The nurses increased the morphine dosage as Mo's tumour was giving her a lot of pain,to the extent Mo at times laid on her side,a rarity, normally sleeps on her back and she was very tearful,Bless her!!. Thankfully with the increase the pain abated and she was comfortable again which was good, the down side to the increase meant Mo was even...

  • The mysteries of Mo
    October 27th 2011

Didn't visit Mo today,a first,I just needed some 'time out'so I went over to Rye market with my mum. We had a nice morning considering the weather was crap, had a bit of lunch came back home and watched a bit of tv with my mum. I dropped her back home and had a lay down as I had a headache. All in all I had a nice day,but I couldn't stop thinking about Mo on and off all day I guess it was only natural. I found it very hard NOT to visit Mo today, but I have rung twice so far and will ring again later...

  • The mysteries of Mo
    October 26th 2011

I had visited Mo earlier on today but I popped back at 7pm to drop off some clean nightshirts and some special supplemented fruit juices, fortijuice.full of vitamins and stuff.Katy the Macmillan nurse had ordered them for me when Mo wasn't eating, unfortunately they had turned up the day after Mo was admitted to the Hospice.I parked outside in the Hospice car park and rang through to the nurses station just to make sure Michael,Mo's younger son wasn't still visiting.Unfortunately me and him don't get...

    What happens next
Haven't written a diary since I was a kid, worrying about simpler things than the situation I find myself in today. I know this is a blog, but similar right? 2 weeks ago today I spoke to a doctor who told me my mum has late stage lung cancer! She's been in hospital since the 11th of this month.  Back in July she was complaining of a back ache I really didn't think much of it. Said that she'd probably pulled a muscle at the gym. Always tickles me that at 66 she goes to the gym, go mum!! Didn...

  • I never expected that
    Colonoscopy on Wednesday

I've gone through a mix of emotions since fixing the appointment for my colonoscopy the other day. Not looking forward to the day before - fasting and Klean Prep (to clear out the bowel - advice to stay near a loo), and not looking forward to the investigation itself (going through the stoma will be weird but probably less uncomfortable than the scope through the rectum last year).

It is a reminder of how life was turned upside down some 18 months ago when a similar investigation showed that...

  • Learning to accept my mum's advanced stomach cancer & beyond
    First chemo session

So since I last posted my mum started her chemo on Thursday, I was reassured that they have given her a very expensive chemo at her advanced stage rather than just offering a cheaper less advanced version.  They gave her two very powerful doses and as you can imagine it has knocked her about.   She has had the usual side effects but probably the worse one is severe legs cramps which saw us at the hospital for 6 hours today.

Every day feels like we are all on a roller coaster.  My dad who isn't in

  • Nineteen days passed
    Nineteen days

    Nineteen days... Is that all???

Says it all really ninteen days since mums passing.

Does it get any easier? Not if I think of it in that way, to me she is working away. People look at me and wonder... why is she not more upset???

Believe me I would love the freedom to crawl into a corner just to cry, scream or break into a million pieces. Unfortunately mum left a big hole in alot of peoples lives and she always was one for showing a brave face - after all bills have to be paid, shopping has to...

  • The Big C
    Waiting waiting waiting

You know you've been ill for too long when even the radiographers know you by name. What really annoys me though, is when people I don't know don't even pretend to not figure I must be me. Because I have an 87 not a 50 or 63 in my date of birth the nurses know to come straight for me. It's almost as annoying as when people presume my mother is the patient.

Anyway, rant over. I got my MRI scan, they got a vein FIRST TIME...but it was in my wrist. Unpleasant. Now I must wait. I do...
