So, after I made contact with the doctor, what were the steps to diagnosis:
my symptoms were not very specifc back ache, and so my doctor thought it might be referred pain from an inflamed epipdidymus (sounds like a resident of Notty Ash?), but also thought my spleen felt enlarged.
(1) organised blood tests and book an ultrasound (2 day wait). At this stage I hoped for an inflammation, but like anyone with a PC googled enlarged spleen, and the results were worrying.
(2) the ultrasound reported no...

What another day on Monday at the hospital: Very early start to get to the Marsden by 9.00am for the EDTA test, followed final bloods at 12.30 then over to the Brompton for the MUGA at 1.45pm, so lots of time to kill in between. Fortunately (after initially denying we had an appointment) the hospital were able to bring forward hubby's ultrasound scan and joy of joys, we got the results from the registrar before 12.30.
Even the experts are puzzled - there were originally three tumours in the...
Two months ago I was healthy, moderately fit man - cycling to work, running for charity, indoor rowing, and had lost 10kg through a fitness/healthy eating regime. Then I started to have trouble sleeping - after 2~3 hrs I would wake with back ache, sitting up for a few minutes would dissipate the discomfort and I could then go back to sleep. During the day I felt totally normal. The slowly it got worse and especially after eating a big meal and so I went to a chiropractor thinking it to be muscle...
Well, next month means 1 year from dad's diagnosis, and what a year it's been. Who'd have thought that 1 year ago, Dad, previously healthy and hardly needing to go to the Dr's, would be diagnosed with the most vicious disease? And how ours lives have changed, hey. But, at least we are more positive now than what we were then! Since Dad's diagnosis, he (as well as the rest of the fam) has been through so much-gruelling chemo for six months, then a colon resection, and coming up (drumroll...
As I don't seem able to add to my original blog, I've started a new one. This seems appropriate anyway as I left the last one just about to go for surgery.
After a diagnosis of TaG3 bladder cancer, I opted to go straight for surgery to minimise the risk of invasive recurence. I was fortunate to have the option of a neobladder. So on 1 Sep 2011 off I went for my operation.
Here I am now 12 weeks later and feeling very fit, although lacking in stamina which is only to be expected. Everyone...
What a long and exhausting day we had yesterday at the Marsden when hubby went for the start of his 3rd cycle of chemo. We left home at 10.00 and did not get back until 7.00pm.
There was a panic about the results of the CT scan which were apparently missing as were the results of the two other tests ordered by the doctors. It would appear that although the CT scan had been done and results were on the way over, the other two had not been followed up by the appropriate department.. so many red faces...
I haven’t done a blog in ages so thought I should catch up a bit... Warning does contain an obligatory headtilt, rude words and silliness. Some of this has gone onto warped so sorry for repeating myself (burp)
Last Little My left you she was talking bun ballooning with FC and following headtilters around the room.
The surgical consultant I am being referred to shall hereby be named SC.
So, FC and GC have apparently been writing to SC.
SC and GC have each other’s mobile numbers I know...
hi folks,
OMG success at logging in, now wot to say. First just to update on manuka honey.... after a long conversation with the head staff nurse in charge of my chemo the subject of manuka honey came up.I had been taken it after reading, like alot of ther people , the benifits to the immune system. As it turns out there has been various tests done on this and the results have shown that certain types of pollen collected and used in manuka honey has a detrimental effect on types of chemo( MUST...
