    Livin' on a Prayer...
Hallelujah! It is a Saturday and, wait for it... "Wooah We're Halfway There!" (Bon Jovi, 1986). With the battle truly underway I have pulled forward my two latest weapons. Extra strong cocodamol was first and following two bursts during the night I managed over 8 hours pain free sleep. Its not all one sided though as ulceration is creeping round to the left side of the mouth as well now. So enter weapon number 2 - Igloo. Paste this bad boy on the tongue and cheek areas and it forms a great defensive...

  • I need to get it out
    13/30

They don't let you know in advance how bad it will be or nobody would do it and "it is to kill the cancer".

I have to keep saying that but it slips so easily off the tongue it makes me feel sick to write it.

My hubby gets upset at seeing anyone as every time we do it seems to be more bad news.

We have 160 bottles of Resourse fiber drink now for him to take 3 a day plus 3 meals, at least I think thats what they said. You are at the worst time in your life and they throw all these...

    Dr Onc.

I kept my appointment today at the oncology unit, which is well designed and very friendly, and saw the consultant oncologist, (Dr Onc).  It was not a happy experience and, as thre are other things I'm expected to do at home right now, I'll try to be brief.

Dr Onc was running one hour late.  That of itself didn't matter as this was the NHS and my fellow patients waiting were charming, interesting people and the time passed easily.  When my turn came my wife and I were shown into an examination...

    Is My Glass Half Full?
An absolutely miserable night, with only three hours of broken sleep due to pain in throat, picking up some stronger medication later today which I hope will see me through weekend and until Tuesday when I can talk to my consultant. Ulceration getting worse making it sore to eat never mind the swallowing. Outside skin of neck still seems to be in good shape, slight reddening but now just waiting for that to become sore as well. Still managing to get scrambled egg down for breakfasts, and sauce...

    Groundhog Day
Just a quick blog today. Was welcomed home yesterday with a house full of christmas lights and decs which cheered me up a bit. Got quite a bit of (still broken) sleep last night, but still got up feeling rough. Just one thing after another, now neck is aching at the back just to add to issues. Trip to hospital and treatment was slickest ever, first in the queue when I arrived and in and out in under 25mins.

    Thoughts for today

I'm due to see Dr Onc, (not his real name), on Friday at the Unit.  Ok so far as they look after me very well.

Pains from my pathological fracture(s) of the pelvis are generally better but have shifted.  The urinary symptoms, day and night, are worse.  I have the printed results of my blood tests last week and I will have them with me for my onc appointment.  I'm not sure what's going on but, as my PSA continues to rise, it means The Enemy is active again.  Worrying outlook.  All will be well...

  • My New Fight With Cancer 2013 Nov
    another day

Well I really am having a struggle

No real news since last Wednesday I was talking to some of the other members, and they suggested that if no information was forth coming in the post today then to phone up, so I phoned up the local mac people at the hospital, she said that she had not had any news and would phone my surgeons secretary, but by the end of the day  there was still no news, so as you all can imagine i am feeling very alone and in need of some information but now it looks as...

    Nowhere To Hide
Almost half way through week three of treatment and gradually feeling worse, as expected. Entrance to the throat at back of mouth is inflamed and sore, this is good as this is the primary target area now my tonsils have been removed and this was the source of the cancer. So with cells degenerating and regenerating in all the right areas, I am in no doubt that any straggling cancer cells are getting smashed to pieces by the radiation treatment and the battle is being won. Next stage will be further...

    3 and a half years.

it's now been 3 and a half years since i lost my mum, i now have a wonderful support system from 2 very good friends, where although they didn't know me when i lost my mum, they try their hardest to understand me and see where i'm coming from in certain aspects of my life.
one thing that is really getting to me at the moment is that my mum's side of the family don't really make any effort with me anymore, and when they do, i always feel like theyre doing it out of pity. as much as their...

    Tiredness, 3 December

I started writing this posting and I lost it!  Disappeared.  Trick of my laptop? Gone into The Cloud?

After months of lack of sleep I'm now able to sleep better.  When the pain from the pelvic fracture and RT was at its worst I couldn't get into bed or settle once there.  I slept in a chair in the lounge for a while. Next, I could climb into bed but had to sleep on my back, supported all round by pillows.  Now, at last, I can get into bed normally and sleep on my side, turning over as I wish...
