Why I am writing this blog

In writing this blog, I am not attempting a diary or chronological record, but to record some of my feelings and thoughts as I fathom my way through this new chapter of my life. I am grateful to Macmillan for providing a safe platform where this is possible.

that day will stay with me for as long as i live.....

i'm a single mum of a beautiful little boy age 6,at the time of diagnosis he was 5.

Finel chemo session / port removal / radiotherapy
Today I had my last chemo session. I've been looking forward to this day yet on the way there this morning, I started to feel quite emotional. I had got into a routine with the weekly appointment and dare I say, almost use to the side effects.
When I got to the treatment suite, I had the dreaded insertion of the needle into my port. That would (hopefully) be the final time I would use it. I then started to get emotional and sobbed uncontrollably. Reality had struck me again. Since chemo had...

  • My Sober Ramblings
If you are bored read this....it wont help with the boredom though!!

First of all anyone hoping to read of my adventures walking round the countryside....sorry not that kind of Rambling...more a case of me writing things as they pop into my head

I realised earlier my last blog was written when i was quite drunk and reading it back it made little sense, so i thought i would write sober this time (i don't have a drinking problem!!) and see what happens.

I am now 18 months ish into my journey/roller coaster/stairway to heaven/highway to hell, however people want...

    of holidays, hardwork and heartache

    Hello dear readers,

Been a while since I updated the blog.  I haven't forgotten about it, just life gets in the way.

We have had a jam packed six week school holiday this year.  Last year was a write off due to me receiving my treatment and next year is not promised so I booked three different getaways this year.

We took the kids away in our caravan to Scotland for a few days then went for a trip of a lifetime (well for us anyway) on a narrowboat through Yorkshire.  We had always planned to retire...

  • In the queue for the rollercoaster
    Early days

So now I have been given the awful news I am thinking about what is to come .

I know I need to take each day at a time and just stand and wait in the queue looking at the scenery for the moment instead of thinking about the ride that is to come .

Incise  you don't understand the rollercoaster part , i am a very visual thinking person and this is kind of how i imagine the start of my journey .

I will hopefully update my blog as much as possible to remind myself of things and hopeful bring me comfort...

24 hours to go: Sh#t just got real!
24 hours to go – sh*t just got real!
    P1010139

Note on headline: This is not entirely true, I am currently eating pizza and drinking champagne whilst watching gogglebox, sh*t is actually very much the same as normal but I thought I would go sensationalist for more attention. Perhaps I’m in denial or perhaps the pragmatist in me realises that until I wake up at some point on Sunday/ Monday, there’s zero value in worrying about anything that hasn’t happened yet. Either way, I’ve still got 24 hours to...

    Portacath removal

I've now set a date for the removal of my portacath. This will be the following Wednesday after my 12th chemo session and the week before radiotherapy starts. It has never been comfortable but yet it has made my weekly chemo sessions much easier. As much as I don't like having the portacath, I am getting very anxious about having it removed since this time it will he done under local anaesthetic so I will be awake:

'The same area incised for the original insertion is cut for removal...
