  • I never expected that
    MRI scan

I was pleased to be phoned by the MRI Unit and the Colorectal nurse co-ordinating my care on the same morning that I received the confirmation (over the phone from consultant) that it is a malignant tumour.

I had the MRI scan yesterday two days later (10th). I think this was particularly for scanning the pelvic area to build up a detailed picture of the tumour and neighbouring tissue. For anyone who doesn't know, you have to lie still and it's very noisy. It felt a bit weird but was painless....

    Discovering the tumour

On 2 June I had a flexible sigmoidoscopy to investigate rectal bleeding. There had been an assumption that this was related to piles which first appeared during my pregnancy with gorgeous daughter 2 (a common pregnancy condition after all). In retrospect it is difficult to remember when the symptoms changed, but by the time I had the internal investigation I wondered if it might be something else.

But, I never expected the consultant to say that I had a growth and that I should prepare myself for...

My third surgery in as many years.........

Hi everyone. Thought i would write a little update on me. Since Eastertime i have been feeling less well each day. I have been having my regular checks and full body scans but asked for an earlier scan than my next one due in August. It turns out that my pelvic sarcoma has returned and is huge :-( It is pressing on my main nerve that runs down my left leg which is giving me such pain. I have medication for this but it soon wears off, i have even developed a limp. Im trying not to let anything stop...

    Decisions, Decisions !!!

    Hi all,

I have seen my consultant today to get the results of my CT scan and the news is not so good. The Caelyx is not working and so the remaining cycles have been cancelled. I now have three options to consider before returning to see him on 28th June.

Firstly, he would be happy for me to have a break from chemo for a few months, especially as I feel good and my energy levels are fine. I would be regularly monitored with blood tests and scans throughout. Option 2 is to test my original cancer...

    Feeling sorry for myself.

Sitting here on a rare! sunny day in scotland feeling so sorry for myself.  Feeling awful, no energy, bones and muscles ache and feel like yuk.  Just got one of six chemo out of the way and it seems such a long road.  Know its a lot worse for other people, just feel so helpless.  My situation is complicated by the fact I have a disabled son who is in the family home being looked after and I am in a flat with with my friend being looked after, I just want to be home looking after my son, to hear him moan...
