    Too good to be true

Just out of hospital, made the mistake of saying to anyone of my friends that would listen that the  chemo wasnt as bad as had expected.  What happens?  When immune system is down get an infection and kidneys pack in, luckily was at hospital for something else and it was found in a blood test, had no symptoms of kidneys not working properly, has anyone else experienced this.  Doctor at hospital said chemo may be reduced in next treatment, have to say it has frightened me as it was just my first chemo...

    Third time lucky!

Saw my consultant yesterday and told him my decision was to have carboplatin and taxol weekly (three weeks on and one week off will be one cycle) The CA125 will be checked after cycles 2 and 4 and if that is improving I will have two more cycles so six in all. This will be the third time having carbo/taxol so keeping everything crossed that it works!  Of course, my hair will go again so I think a new wig is needed as I have had the same one for over three years. It is a very good one but time for...

  • Battling on Two Fronts
Is it normal to give in to the tiredness (or am I just a lazy bum)?

I've been on chemo (5FU + Oxaliplatin + Avastin) since March, for colon cancer diagnosed in February; round nine is coming up this week. I've been off work since before the diagnosis. Right after diagnosis I got very sick and was three weeks in hospital, lost well over 20 kg, and came out of hospital very weak and with poor mobility.  I got stronger in the first weeks, but as the chemo side effects accumulate, I'm finding it harder and harder to find the energy to do even basic household chores...

Its been over six weeks now since Mum had her operation and she is still in hospital.  What I want to know is shouldnt she of started RT or chemo by now before the cancer starts to grow again.  Please let me know your thoughts on this.

  • I never expected that
Still waiting for appointment with oncologist

It turns out the oncologist is away this week so I know that it won't be until next week at the earliest. My very helpful nurse contact is going to check that the referral has been made correctly in the absence of any direct communication from anyone involved in sorting out my radiotherapy. Of course I just want to get on with it as soon as possible - or at the very least to have an idea of dates with (school) holidays coming up.

I am still very early in my journey - but my tip would be to keep...

    RIP Joan

A dear friend of mine lost her 5 year battle last night with Lung Cancer.

Joan showed great courage throughout her ordeal. Giving me inspiration whilst I was ill. Joan will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

     RIP Joan. Love Julie X

    Why cant i speak

Why when someone asks how are you cant i answer honestly....

I am stuck at home every day and night on my own, usually crying. I really dont know what to do. Im stuck.

Im so dissapointed in life i cant even explain it right. WHY. WHY my little girl she was only 4 and had her whole life ahead of her. When i was with her at the end watching her suffering was the worst pain i have ever felt. I would have done anything to take that pain away or even swap places with her.

    Now shes gone there seems...

  • Rather unsure...
    Hello..

So I am not even sure if it is appropriate that I am on this website - my Mum has got cancer, but it's not like I am on my own (there are the other family members/ family friends etc) or she is in immediate danger. I am just incredibly lonely and scared -  talking about anything with them evidently isn't helping them "deal" with things and I don't want to make things harder for any of them but since it all began last summer I feel like I am slowly sinking and this has got worse now I have moved...
