Still waiting for appointment with oncologist

1 minute read time.

It turns out the oncologist is away this week so I know that it won't be until next week at the earliest. My very helpful nurse contact is going to check that the referral has been made correctly in the absence of any direct communication from anyone involved in sorting out my radiotherapy. Of course I just want to get on with it as soon as possible - or at the very least to have an idea of dates with (school) holidays coming up.

I am still very early in my journey - but my tip would be to keep asking the questions and to not always wait for them to get in touch with you. Knowing the oncologist is away and therefore I won't see him for at least a week, is easier than wondering each day whether I'm going to be contacted and invited in at the drop of a hat. It's not as though I'm hassling all the time but if I've not heard anything in what I think is a sensible timescale then I'm on the blower!

In the meantime, we continue to try and make the most of weekends - yesterday going to an open farm in the baking heat (but eerily quiet due to the footie). The girls loved it - and it is great to see their excitement at seeing the animals, stroking the rabbits, P helping S on the swings and in the bouncy castle, etc.

    Hi Wannadance,

Now you are getting iinto the way of Cancer, If you dont ask the questions they wont give you the answers. You are not hassling them you are looking after your own interest in whats going on with your health.

You want to have a plan so that you know when and where your next appointment will be, and not be left guessing. Keep at them.

It was good for you and the kids to get away for the day,I bet you all enjoyed yourselves. I hope you bought them an Ice Cream.

Take care and be safe Big Hugs Love Sarsfield.xxx

  • You are so right - keeping on top of what's happening is SO important. Don't think of making calls to enquire what exactly is happening is hassling people. It shouldn't be necessary but we all know darn well it can 'wake up' the admins.

Glad you are taking the opportunity to do 'normal' things - it can be that cancer consumes our whole lives but we must make space for living.

    Good luck,
