My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in February 2019, I'm a student who lives away but I went home for the bulk of her treatment (chemo and radio) to support her and to run the house and her self-employed job whilst she was going through treatment. She was taken off oncology and surgical just before new years, but has another appointment in July for hopefully the 'all clear'.
Over the last few weeks I've been experiencing anxiety, paranoia, panic attacks, depression and various other symptoms that I've never before experienced. I'm wondering if it's because I've been strong for so long and suddenly have chance to breathe.
Is this normal? What should support if any should I seek?
Thanks.
Hi Simba_94 welcome to the forum and I think your last sentence sums up exactly what is happening for you and you are not alone in experiencing this so there is nothing wrong with you you are perfectly normal.
That said all those feelings do need an outlet and it might be an idea to go see your GP and tell them how you are feeling as they will be able to help and you may or may not need a short spell on medication or they may suggest some counselling for you which again would be very useful for how you are feeling. If you felt that you wanted to speak to someone by phone then please do give the MacMillan Line a call they are great and are well used to speaking with people and listening and the line is available from 8am-8pm everyday on 08088080000.
Dont be strong for any longer its time to focus on you and getting you well now, and then in July fingers crossed for the all clear, then you and your mum can have one almighty celebration for you both being well.
You have taken the first step by recognising how you are feeling now its time to share that and get some help. Please do keep in touch and let us now how you get on.
Menatime Im sending some huge big hugs your way. xxxxx
